SOMOS SABE Noticias familiares
Vol. 2 No. 2 SEPTIEMBRE 2023

From: Mrs. Rodriguez, Executive Director/Head of School
Dear SABE Family,
What a week it has been. I am extremely grateful to a great TEAM and everyone who helped when we had the water leak on Tuesday morning. Mr. Castro, our school custodian, responded quickly, and our management company, Roger Cox & Associates was able to respond and assist within 45 minutes. Our administrative team was able to message parents and staff about the emergency and we were able to get the work started quickly to remedy the situation.
Unfortunately, we had to close the school to take care of removing the water, contact the insurance company, get repairs done to the plumbing, and get the carpets cleaned and the rooms ready for the staff and students to return safely. Much of that time was needed to make sure we took the necessary steps to make sure everything was done well.
We were extremely lucky that there was minimal damage and there was little loss. Mrs. Duran's and Mrs. Estrada's classroom was the only classroom affected as much of the water was in the front office areas and bathrooms. We appreciate the support of our families and PTA in contacting the staff to see how they could help replace their personal belongings and classroom resources that were lost.
As we start the new month, we are excited to continue the work of teaching your children! We look forward to a great month. I am very excited to kick off our SOMOS SABE Family Nights and look forward to seeing all our families join us! Please look for more information below. I'm also very excited that we are in the beginning stages of securing a forever home for SABE. While expenses are really high in real estate costs, we are hopeful that in the next two years, we will be welcoming our scholars to a new home. Your continued help and commitment to SABE is greatly appreciated. Student enrollment is what drives our funding and we continue to seek your support in spreading the word about our wonderful dual-language school!! At this time, we have open spaces for enrollment in all grade levels except for 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th grade.
I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community and SABE family. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children!
Adelante SABE family!

Importancia de buena asistencia
At SABE, we believe in all scholars succeeding in all areas at school. One area that contributes to student success is good attendance.
School attendance is crucial for several reasons, as it forms the foundation for a child's educational, social, and personal development. Here are some key points highlighting the importance of elementary school attendance:
Basic Education: Elementary school provides fundamental knowledge and skills in subjects like math, reading, writing, and science. Regular attendance ensures that students receive essential instruction and build a strong educational foundation.
Academic Progress: Consistent attendance enables students to keep up with their coursework and make steady academic progress. Missing school can lead to gaps in knowledge, making it harder for students to catch up later.
Social Development: School is not just about academics; it's also a place where children learn social skills, make friends, and interact with peers. Regular attendance fosters social development by allowing students to build relationships and learn from their interactions.
Routine and Responsibility: Attending school regularly establishes a daily routine and teaches children about responsibility and punctuality. These habits are essential for success in both school and later in life.
Reducing Achievement Gaps: High rates of attendance can help reduce achievement gaps among students. When all students attend regularly, schools can provide a more equitable learning environment.
In summary, school attendance is essential for a child's academic success, social development, and overall well-being. It lays the groundwork for future education and helps children develop the skills, knowledge, and habits they need to thrive in school and beyond.
Comunicación entre padres de familia y la escuela
In the case, you have specific concerns regarding your child, we ask that the homeroom teacher always be contacted first. Our teachers will be more than happy to call you or schedule a meeting in person to address any concerns you may have. Teachers can be contacted in three different ways:
- Personal ClassDojo message;
- Email; and
- Phone call (505) 771-0555.
Almuerzo escolar y MealTime
We are in the process of opening our MealTime payments where school supply fees and before/afterschool program costs as well as our USDA NSLP applications. SABE participates in the USDA's National School Lunch Program (NSLP). This requires all families to complete an application.
While ALL breakfasts and lunches are free in the State of New Mexico, we still have to give the information from the applications for the USDA program. The data received from these applications also help us in completing grants and providing information to the New Mexico Public Education Department. Therefore, it is very important to us that everyone complete an application. This should be ready for you to complete during mid-September.
Families that complete the applications will be entered into a drawing. We will be sending out this information once the program goes live.
Cuota de útiles escolares y playera de SABE
Thank you to the families that have already paid their child's supply fee. We will make the necessary adjustments on the administrative side for the new school year the week of September 11th.
As part of the classroom supplies that all students receive with the school supply fee payment, students receive a SABE t-shirt. Use the link below to provide your child's shirt size. If you have already provided us with your child's shirt size, it has been recorded and there is no need to submit it again.
SOMOS SABE: Noches de Familia
These nights are going to be ways to celebrate music, cultures, and academics, and provide support to our families and students. Join us for prizes, food, and fun!!
We hope to see you all on Thursday, September 21st!!
