Cold Weather Rule Reminder
Beginning November 1 through April 1, we are going to implement the "Cold Weather Rule". During this time, students must adhere to the following dress code changes.
1. No bare legs. This means: NO shorts, leggings MUST be worn under skirts
2. Jackets/Coats/Sweatshirts. All students will be required to bring a jacket, coat, or sweatshirt to school. We will go out to recess unless the temperature falls below 25 degrees. Students must have a coat, jacket, or sweatshirt each day. Stocking caps and gloves are also a good idea.
If you are in need of a coat, uniform pants, leggings, a stocking cap, or gloves just let us know and we will do what we can to help. You can email me at kmonaghan@stpatrickkc.com and I'll put you in touch with the right person.
If a student comes to school with bare legs, we will give them the option of finding something from our uniform closet or calling home for parents to bring in the proper attire.

Keeping St. Patrick Healthy
Recently, an outbreak of an illness from a novel (or new) coronavirus started, which public health officials call COVID-19. The first cases appeared in Wuhan City, China, and now it is in many locations across the world, including some in the United States and even in the Kansas City area.
At St. Patrick School, as we do every flu season, we are doing everything possible to protect the health of our students and staff. We take additional precautions to clean and sanitize all surfaces, and we work with students and staff to encourage them to wash their hands regularly. As a buildling, we are becoming more diligent in wiping hard surfaces, doorknobs, and chairs. All Northland Catholic Schools are working together and are monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a virus strain that has only spread in people since December 2019. Health experts are concerned because they are still learning about this new virus. Reported cases have ranged from mild illness (similar to a common cold) to severe pneumonia that requires hospitalization. People who have been diagnosed with novel coronavirus have reported symptoms that may appear in as few as two days or as long as 14 days after exposure. The most common symptoms are fever, cough and difficult breathing.
What is a Coronavirus?
The CDC states there are several types of coronaviruses. This strain is named the 2019 Novel coronavirus, or 2019-nCoV, and is causing pneumonia-like symptoms. This strain is a respiratory virus spread from animal and/or human to human and, if severe, can cause pneumonia. People with cardiopulmonary disease, weakened immune systems, infants and older adults are most at risk. The family of coronaviruses are typically spread similar to influenza through droplets via the respiratory tract when a person coughs or sneezes, similar to influenza. Symptoms of this virus can range from a mild illness to including symptoms of fever, cough, and shortness of breath. The incubation of the illness is up to two weeks, and people have shown onset of symptoms between two days and the full two weeks.
Transmission
Human coronaviruses are most commonly spread from an infected person to others through:
· Coughing and sneezing into the air
· Close personal contact, such as touching or shaking hands
· Touching an object or surface with the virus on it, then touching your mouth, nose, or eyes before washing your hands
· Rarely, fecal contamination
Symptoms
Confirmed 2019-nCoV infections have ranged from infected people with little to no symptoms to people being severely ill and dying. The 2019-nCoV is associated with pneumonia-like symptoms, which may include:
· Fever
· Cough
· Difficulty breathing
Treatment
There are no specific treatments for illnesses caused by human coronaviruses. Most people with common human coronavirus illness will recover on their own.
The CDC recommends the following:
· Take pain and fever medications. (Do not give aspirin to children.)
· Use a room humidifier or take a hot shower to help ease a sore throat and cough.
· Drink plenty of liquids.
· Stay home and rest.
This summary is designed to provide basic information and is not all inclusive. Please visit the CDC homepage to obtain the latest and most valid coronavirus information.
