News & Announcements:
KINDNESS MATTERS Week!
Our wonderful Friends of Rachel Club is hosting "Kindness Matters" week this coming week! (February 27th - March 3rd) The Friends of Rachel Club stands for kindness, and the power that it has. Our students will be participating in several activities throughout the week not only to promote kindness, but also to recognize and celebrate the kindness that is displayed everyday. We believe that taking a week to help students relax and be aware of their own positive attitude towards others will inspire a student culture in which compassion is a fundamental value.
ACT Prep Sessions BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!
This March, the Marian Central Catholic H. S. Library is offering a second opportunity for Sophomores and Juniors to take a complete practice ACT test, spread out over two after-school sessions. The testing will take place on March 8th (2:30 - 5:00) and March 9th (2:30 - 4:00). These are official practice tests from ACT, and students will receive scaled scores for each test section and subsection. This is an opportunity for Marian students to get an idea of the types of questions they will be seeing on the real test. They will also experience the ACT testing environment, complete with proctored instructions, ACT rules, and more than one test in one sitting.
Test seating is limited to the first 25 students to register. If you are interested, please print the form linked below, complete the signature block, and return it to the Marian library no later than March 3rd. You will be notified by e-mail once your form has been received. Watch the Marian website for information on the number of seats available.
Marian's Theatre Scene is THRIVING!
What a successful run of our annual Spring Musical! The final bows on Saturday night closed an amazing production of The Pajama Game and we couldn't be more grateful for our cast, crew, orchestra pit, directors, and parent-volunteers for bringing such joy and music to our school. Set strike happened on Sunday afternoon, the students had one day of rest - and then we launched right into auditions for our spring Black Box production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown!
Black Box is a term often used to describe very small theatrical productions that use a minimalist set, and are often presented in a very intimate theatrical setting. We launched this small production last year, and it was a great success. This year, our audience will once again be seated ON THE STAGE and treated to a wonderful, light-hearted musical! The cast list is going up, tech meetings will begin next week (drop in meetings on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday!) and rehearsal schedules will be posted!

SCHOLASTIC BOWL HEADING TO MASONIC STATE TOURNAMENT MARCH 4th!
1. The hypotenuse of a 30-60-90 degree triangle is 14 cm long. Find the perimeter of the triangle. Be sure to include the correct units.
2. Which eleven-letter adjective is used before the word "mark" to refer to any of several notations above or below a letter in word to indicate pronunciation?
3. Theatrical workers, whether production, construction or administrative are often referred to by what four-letter noun that begins with the letter "g"?
Well, our Marian Central Scholastic Bowl defeated several teams, sweeping the preliminary rounds with a perfect 5-0 record to advance to the finals, up against #1 seeded Rockford Auburn. The teams battled back and forth in a very exciting exchange of point-lead with every round. Our team proudly took the 2nd place honor, and are eager to launch their IHSA season (We are actually hosting a tournament here on March 6th!) It's a sport that you can actually play along with (in your mind) or just sit back and marvel at what these kids know!
Want the answers to the questions?
1. 21 + 7 radical 3 cm
2. diacritical (mark)
So how'd you do???
All announcements, schedules, and forms are published on our Marian website for your convenience! After any new announcements are broadcast via email, we make sure we post a permanent link to the information on our website for your reference.
