In The Know
Coronavirus - While the spread of novel coronavirus is troubling, we must remind ourselves that fear, rumors, and stigma do nothing to stop the further spread of the disease. Viruses do not discriminate. Facts and science, proven public health measures and common-sense precautions in our personal lives are the best measures we can take to protect the people we serve. The best source of information is the Oregon Health Authority. Their site also has links to the CDC and other resources.
Nominate "A Champion in Education" Today! - Who is your champion in education? An inspiring teacher? An encouraging school secretary? A caring school counselor or nurse? A dedicated volunteer? A principal who leads by example? A bus driver who always takes the time to listen? A custodian who helped in a time of need? Now is the time to recognize their contributions by nominating them for an ACE (A Champion in Education) Award! To learn more and nominate a 4J employee or volunteer, visit 4j.lane.edu/2020-ACE. The nomination deadline is March 31.
Come celebrate our amazing educators and cheer on the nominees at the awards ceremony on May 12, 5–7 p.m., at Sheldon High School. One nominee in each of the categories will be named an ACE Award champion and win a $250 grant from the Eugene Education Foundation for the 4J school or program of their choosing. Every nominee will be recognized as an exceptional educator at the awards ceremony. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact 4J Communications at 541-790-7734 or johnson_hi@4j.lane.edu.
The 8th annual WISE (Women in Science & Engineering) Symposium - Will be Wednesday, March 18th, from 3:30-7:30 p.m. This is open to ALL high school students. All means all, we hold no biases for gender, sexual orientation, race or creed. This year the Cascades Raptor Center is returning for their popular workshop on raptors. We're hoping that Valentino (who is female despite the "o") a great horned owl will be willing to make a live appearance. Also on tap, computer science workshops, engineering, genetics, social media and data collecting, physical therapy. Our Keynote is Jessa Sequeira an OSU engineering student who has worked with the group Engineers Without Boarders.

Kudos
Thanks to students and staff who wrote cards, put up signs and banners, and brought in snacks and warm drinks for classified staff appreciation this week. We feel uplifted, appreciated, and loved.
Congratulations to Quinn Wright, Mithrandir Eichner, Alex Jentzsch, Miles Ward and Lairen Miller for winning first place in the codeORcreate challenge this weekend. They created an interactive math tutoring website using software and tools they just learned for the first time this weekend. Wow!
Churchill's mighty Equestrian Team is having their second horse show this weekend. This is a fun, free event, and a great opportunity to get a horse nuzzle, pet a fuzzy pony, and see the team present their hard work. Abby Sheppler, Mady Utz, and Cortney Hatfield join with Sheldon's Maddy Bazer for three days of team and individual events.
