Cal-SOAP Offers a Variety of SAT/ACT Prep Opportunities
One-day Preparation Workshops for Juniors: Cal-SOAP offers one-day test preparation workshops on various dates and locations. Registration is online at http://sandiegocalsoap.com/star/Events under the “Test Prep” tab. SAT Prep dates include January 20 at San Ysidro High; March 3 at UCSD; April 21 at Chula Vista High or May 12 at UCSD. ACT Prep dates include January 27 at San Ysidro High; April 7 at Chula Vista High or May 19 at UCSD. Instructor: Karla Whitaker.
SWAG - Students With Academic Goals SAT Prep Academy: SWAG is an intensive, 3-week SAT Prep Academy located at Bayview Baptist Church, weekdays June 14-29. Students must currently be in Grade 9, 10 or 11 (in Grade 10, 11 or 12 in Fall 2018). The program includes SAT instruction, tutoring, lunch, team-building and field trips to three local universities. SWAG applications are due March 23; it is a competitive process and acceptance is not guaranteed. Families must attend an orientation in May; students must take a pre-test on June 2. SAT Scholars: SAT Scholars is an intensive SAT Prep Academy located at USD (University of San Diego) over the course of 7 Saturdays: June 30-August 11. Students must currently be in Grade 9, 10 or 11 (Grade 10, 11 or 12 in Fall 2018) and must have taken Integrated Math III or higher by June 2018. Each session is 8:30am-12:30pm. Unlike SWAG, this is strictly SAT preparation instruction. SAT Scholars applications are due April 13; it is a competitive process and acceptance is not guaranteed. Information and Application:

NOTE: To qualify for admission to a four-year university, students must take an SAT or ACT. Their score can have a significant impact on whether they are accepted to their first-choice university. We encourage students to apply for this seven-session SAT Preparation workshop series. This intensive course normally costs $695; Cal-SOAP is able to provide it FREE to qualified students.

Aaron Lee (student)
Aaron Lee is seventeen and a senior at Madison High School. When not working hard on his rigorous academics, Aaron likes to play basketball, explore and travel. Having a deep passion for sports is something that is a big part of his interests. Having a very curious nature, his curiosity drives him to often try new things and engage in more activities. Tutoring at Madison
Teachers are available to assist students every week, Monday through Thursday, 2:30-3:30 pm, in room 701a. Ms. Ulibarri (math) and Mr. Bishop (science) are available on Monday; Ms. Chen (social studies) and Mr. Rocobo (Math and Spanish) and Mr. Stout (math) on Tuesday; Mr. Cella (math) and Mr. Brooks (DHH) on Wednesday; and Ms. BeMent (math) and Ms. Barrett (all subjects) on Thursday until 4:30 pm.
Mr. John Cella (staff)
Mr. John Cella, is the math department chair. He has been a dedicated teacher at Madison for 19 years. He not only is an amazing teacher, but he is very enthusiastic about math and he brings it to life for students who may not have enjoyed math in the past. He always finds a variety of ways to help students understand math concepts. Read more
Family Notices for the Week:
- Talent Show Auditions are coming! All Madison singers, dancers, rap artists, musicians, comedians, and all other performers are invited to audition after school on Tuesday, February 20 and Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Students are encouraged to see Mr. Oberle for details. The show is March 2, 2018.
- Boys Tennis tryouts are February 12–15, 2018, 2:30-5:00 pm, at the tennis courts.
Yearbook Senior Ads are now available. Click here for more information. Deadline to purchase a senior ad is March 1, 2018.
- Saturday School is Saturday, February 24, 2018, 8 a.m. to noon, Rm. B-22. Seniors are required to clear attendance through Saturday School in order to participate in end- of-year senior activities. Permission slips will be distributed on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Students must arrive on time; late arrivals are turned away.
- Minimum Day on February 28, 2018; students released at 12:30 pm.
