Woodholme Welcomes Cheryl Shaw!
Woodholme will be saying goodbye to assistant principal Mrs. Meghan Nelson-Tracey at the end of this school year. On July 1st Mrs. Nelson-Tracey will transfer to Logan Elementary School. We will miss Mrs. Nelson-Tracey and wish her the best at her new school! Mrs. Cheryl Shaw will be joining the Woodholme Family from Hillcrest Elementary School. She has been a member of Team BCPS for 23 years. Her career has taken her to multiple areas around the county and she has taught pre-k and second grade. Mrs. Shaw also spent many years as a technology integration teacher as well as a S.T.A.T. teacher prior to being an assistant principal at Hillcrest. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, a daughter and a son. She looks forward to joining the Woodholme Elementary learning community.
A Note From the Principal
Dear Woodholme Families,
As we come to the final two weeks of school, we reflect on the busy and exciting school year we have had. The beautiful student performances we had the pleasure of witnessing at Student Showcase had me bursting with pride and filling with tears of amazement! Thanks to all of the teachers and staff who worked so hard to make our school come alive with student imagination and creativity! Thanks to our band, orchestra, chorus and Rockin' Rockets teachers for the work they did to prepare our students for their performances.
We have enjoyed working with our families and students this year! We know teachers are looking forward to the summer break for some much needed time to rest and rejuvenate so they are fresh and ready for the upcoming 2018-19 school year! The main office remains open during the summer so administrators can start working on next year. Summer hours will be posted once they are determined.
Just a reminder parents that summer can either be a time for academic decline as skills are abandoned and forgotten, or a time for academic progress as reading and math skills are practiced and even improved with summer academic and enrichment activities. Consider scheduling summer reading and writing activities into your children's daily or weekly schedules, and fun math activities and practice can also help keep those math facts skills sharp and quick! You can contact your children's teachers before the year ends to get ideas on how to help your children keep their academic skills fresh this summer. Summer family trips or even day trips can also be a great way to explore museums, geographical areas and historic places. Don't forget to have your children write in summer journals to not only record their memories of trips and sun and family fun, but to have much-needed practice time with writing!
We are so excited to begin planning for a great 2018-19 school year ahead for Woodholme students!
Most of all, don't forget to enjoy relaxing and fun family time together this summer!
Enjoy the rest of the school year and your summer,
Principal Young
