Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
Please see below for some important facts about school attendance:
Research shows school attendance matters and attendance habits start at the elementary level. Below are some important facts to consider:
Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
Missing 10 percent (or about 18 days) can make it harder to learn to read.
Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two every few weeks.
Being late to school or leaving early may lead to poor attendance.
Regular attendance is part of Michigan’s Compulsory Attendance law.
A note from the doctor is coded as a medically excused absence.
These facts along with other statistics regarding the importance of school attendance can be found by visiting the attendanceworks.org website.
Attendance letters from school are sent home periodically. Our goal is to inform you of your child's attendance record and to encourage regular attendance.
For further attendance guidelines, you can check out our West Shore parent/student handbook found on the district website at www.lakefentonschools.org.
Yours in learning,
Mrs. Shaughnessy

Parent Pick-Up
Just a reminder, due to safety concerns during after school pick up times, West Shore has a "NO LOBBY" pick -up policy.
In the past, when lobby pick-up was an option, it became very difficult to keep track of and monitor students and the adults picking up the students. We have several safety factors to consider including custody issues and "safe adults" who are on emergency contact lists.
From time to time there are extenuating circumstances. In those instances, Mrs. Shaughnessy will consider and/or approve alternate end of the day options.
During pick up lane, please make sure that your pick up sign is visibly hanging from your visor in the passenger side window. Thanks again for your patience and support! It’s been a great team effort to make this work for our student’s safety.
