stills impact was that he helped as many as 800 slaves escape to freedom. He interviewed each person and kept careful records, including a brief biography and the destination for each, along with any alias adopted.
levis impact was that coffin estimated that on average he helped one hundred escape annually. Coffin's home became the convergence point of three major escape routes from Madison, New Albany, and Cincinnati. The runaways gathered at his home and at times two wagons were required to transport the escapees further north.
