The Lawmaking Process
- bill is introduced by the senator who drafted the bill
- bill is sent to the senate standing committee
- bill escapes a move to pigeonhole it in the committee
- senate standing committee holds a public hearing
- standing committee sends the bill to the full senate
- bill is debated by the full senate
- they pass their version in a roll call vote
- bill is introduced into the house of representatives
- house of representatives pass a different version of the bill
- conference committee is set up
- compromise bill passes both houses
- president signs the bill into a law
