1st Grade Newsletter

February 22 - 26, 2016


Math--This week we are beginning our place value unit. Students will understand Hundreds, Tens, and Ones to 120, using flats, rods, and units as manipulatives.

Science--identify and describe a variety of natural sources of water, including streams, lakes, and oceans

Reading and Writing--author study, Dr. Seuss. While enjoying one of our favorite authors, our lessons will focus on comparing and contrasting, retelling, and challenging students to use their own creativity to write stories similar to Dr. Seuss'. Check out his website to learn more!

Next week 1st Grade will use books written by Dr. Seuss to guide our reading curriculum. If your child has their own Dr. Seuss books at home that they would like to read in class with friends, they are welcome to bring them to school. Please make sure your child's name is written on their books.

Review Week for Spelling

We will review previously learned spelling patterns in class. There will be no spelling homework or spelling test this week.
