Owl's Nest 2020 - 2021
February Family Newsletter
Dear Families,
Again I want to say thank you for your patience as we are ironing out the kinks in our drop off and pick up system. Several families and staff members have given suggestions and we will continue to make adjustments as needed. We are ending our second full week of in-person instruction and I am so proud of the students and staff for being flexible with all the requirements. Students are figuring out ways to measure the distance required and we have added extra "dots" on the floors to help.
I know at times personal beliefs may differ from what is now expected in schools, but by limiting that talk in front of your children and reinforcing the school expectations at home, your child will have an easier transition to the "new" way of doing school. I am thankful for our staff and families willingness to help us keep our schools open to in-person learning by wearing masks, following procedures and helping the school by reinforcing these at home.
It has been a joy seeing smiling eyes above their masks. We are so glad to have children back in the classrooms!
~Mrs. Jones
Valentine's Day Classroom Parties
Parents please refer to your child's teacher for classroom specific expectations.
If teachers choose to have students bring in anything (including Valentine cards) in for a classroom party, these procedures must be followed:
- Items must be brought in 3 days prior to the day of the party. Anything brought in after will not be handed out and either be disposed of or sent back home with the student.
- Teachers will quarantine items for those 3 days
- Food/drinks must be commercially prepared and individually pre-packaged (please avoid foods that need to be refrigerated or frozen)
- Staff only will hand out items to students after they have been quarantined.
- Staff will sanitize before and after touching items and wear gloves.
- Volunteers/visitors are not permitted to join parties based on safety measures.

ST Math
Can a game change how you feel about math? ST Math's developers believe every student has the potential to deeply understand, and truly love math. ST Math is a visual instructional program that uses puzzles to teach math and develop problem-solving skills while having fun. As a part of our math curriculum, your student has been given an ST Math account. You will see it inside of Rapid Identity.
ST Math is carefully designed to be effective and challenging. Puzzles start out simple and get harder as your student progresses. To help your student solve problems, ask your student what is happening in the games and have them explain their thinking.
Research shows that love of math (and test scores) increase with more time spent in ST Math. To get the best results, here are recommended weekly time goals:
● K-1st grades: 60 minutes per week
● 2nd grade and above: 90 minutes per week
Below is a linked Introduction for Families. Further down you'll see Jiji and some getting started tips and resources we pulled together for you. You can contact Mrs. Jones or your child's teacher with any questions.
- This ST Math Interactive Introduction provides students a sense of what to expect. You are encouraged to go through this with your child.
