Busy, Busy, Busy!
Hello Raider Nation --
We have a very busy week ahead of us culminating with prom this coming Saturday.
This Wednesday, May 1, Atholton will host two busloads of minority teacher candidates. Dr. Martirano contacted me to ask if Atholton would host the candidates. This action is a part of his initiative to increase the number of minority hires in our district. The candidates will arrive at two time for separate tours of the building. The purpose is to see our diverse student body and entice the candidates to choose Howard County as their place of employment. We will be visiting several classrooms (none where testing is taking place, of course!). If you are engaging in something on Wednesday that would be great for a prospective teacher to see, we would love to stop by your classroom. Please let me know. The visits are scheduled to take place during 4th and 5th period (11:00 – 11:30 and 12:00 – 12:30).
On Thursday is the Pre-Prom Assembly during 3rd period. Juniors and Seniors will be called down via an announcement once attendance has been taken and our ARL students have returned to the building.
This Friday is Senior Shadow Day! For those of you who will have seniors shadowing you, please have genuine activities to engage them. Friday is also our 3rd Quarter Honor Roll Ice Cream celebration. We could really use the assistance of those seniors whose teachers have 4th period planning. Also, during 5th and 6th periods, JROTC will hold its Award, Promotion, and Change of Command Ceremony. An email was sent by LTC Reinhart. Please refer to it for specifics.
As you know, we are entering the state-mandated testing window. This week begins the first of several weeks of testing for our students. Please find below the dates for the particular exams. Students will test for 90 minutes on each of the following days:
- English 10 PARCC - April 30, May 1, 2
- Algebra 1 PARCC - May 3, 6, 7
- Algebra 2 PARCC - May 8, 9, 10 (ninth grade only)
- Government HSA - May 29, 30, 31
I think I captured everything this week – whew! Please see below for any meetings.
On a more serious note, I have been informed that principals must attend a meeting with Dr. Martirano on Tuesday to discuss the issues surrounding the budget. I will be sure to keep you all posted on developments and any impact to staffing.
Have a fantastic week!
See you tomorrow!
Robert
