Dixie Magnet Elementary

Where the impossible comes true

Principal Update

I hope that you and your family are enjoying the weekend. This week at Dixie our first graders showcased their learning for families on Monday night at their PBL Expo. The students wanted to figure out how they can help protect animals in their natural environment. Students worked on their communication and collaboration skills and visited the Salato Wildlife Center and Raven Run Nature Sanctuary to help determine the best way they can protect local animals. It was an exciting night for our first graders to share their learning with their families.

On Friday we had a great performance and assembly to honor Veterans. Every grade level performed and students hosted the assembly. Thank you to everyone who attended and to the families who sent in photos. We hope through celebrations such as this that our students are inspired to embody the values our Veterans fought for which include unity, freedom and a better future.

Over Fall Break the city made the intersection at Eastland Parkway and Anniston Drive a 4-way stop. This has slowed down the car lane in the morning. To help with the flow of traffic, please do not get out of your car. If you need to, you may pull all the way down or park in the parking lot. Please make sure that children are ready to exit the vehicle when you pull into the car lane. We try to have as many staff members outside as possible to assist students, but if your child can exit the vehicle safely on their own they may and don't need to wait for an adult to open the door. Please make sure to pull all the way down. It's important for us to get as many cars safely through the lane as possible. If you arrive in the lane after 7:45, your child will need to enter the front of the building.

The PTA's fundraiser the Read-a-thon is going strong! All students can participate and the PTA provides class, individual and school wide incentives for students and families to participate. If you haven't already registered you still can!

We look forward to another week of learning and growing together. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to reach our full potential and to provide opportunities for our students to be a positive force in our changing world!

Sincerely,

Cynthia Bruno, Principal

Big picture

Dixie Read-a-thon Fundraiser! October 30th-November 17th

From PTA:

Parents,

We have made it to your Read-a-thon school-wide goal, and we still have one week left of the Read-a-thon! Let's keep pushing and logging those minutes as the classroom and individual rewards can still be earned. Classroom rewards and the complex trophy is still up for grabs, so we are excited to see what our teams accomplish in this final week!

Our students have earned a school-wide PJ Party and Glow Party with those dates to be announced soon! Other upcoming fun rewards will be students silly stringing one of the teachers, checking out extra books from the library, and other fun trinkets to bring home and keep on their backpacks. Thank you to all the families who have registered, logged reading minutes, and in this final week we are excited to see more students signed up. Every student can be involved in this fundraiser as there are many free individual and classroom incentives that are not based on any personal donation amount! We are hoping to help our students develop a love of reading and help support Dixie as well as our teachers and staff.

Important Dates & Reminders

Registration is FREE and there will be prizes for everyone who gets involved. If you have any questions please reach out to Megan Kidd at fundraising@dixiepta.com

Educational Benefits Form

While this school’s meals will continue at no charge for the 2023-24 school year (through the National School Lunch Program’s CEP-Community Eligibility Provision), it is still important that families who would qualify (Free/Reduced) meal assistance, to fill out an application every school year. This is a great support to our families but also provides funding and resources for Dixie. We use these funds to support our family nights, PBL, and additional staff which are all vital to our school.

  • Income guidelines are below that may help determine if you should complete the application.
  • If your child recently received an approval of direct certification (DC) benefits letter for this 2023-24 SY, you do not need to fill out the form.
  • Only one form per family needed, and it only takes a few minutes.

(If you need any help filling out the form on-line, please contact Jessica Morgison, FRAM Coordinator for FCPS Child Nutrition at 859-381-3838.
