EICS Move to Online Learning

A Message from the Superintendent to our EICS Catholic Community,

As you are probably aware, on May 4th, 2021 Premier Kenney announced increased public health restrictions to deal with the rise in cases of COVID-19 that are occurring across Alberta. One of these changes will directly impact EICS schools in all of our communities beginning Monday, May 10, 2021.

Here are the important dates:

  • The last day of in-class learning for Kindergarten to Grade 12 will be Thursday, May 6th. Friday, May 7th is a professional development day and there are no classes for students.
  • Students in Kindergarten to Grade 12 will transition to online learning as of Monday, May 10th.
  • An anticipated return to in-class learning for students will occur after Victoria Day long weekend on Tuesday, May 25th.

Teachers and school administration will be using the in-class time on Thursday, May 6th to prepare our students and will be communicating with them before the start of next week for a seamless transition. We expect students to connect with their teachers, engage in lessons, and complete assigned work every school day during this two-week period.

We realize that this is not ideal for students - especially this late in the school year. However, our school staff will be working closely with their students to set up a successful transition to at-home learning. Our schools are well-positioned to make this transition as smooth as possible for students and families.

Students with special needs who attend Pathways, or who have complex educational needs, will be contacted by their teacher regarding specific programming.

Once again, these are very challenging times and we appreciate your understanding and patience as we navigate this together.

Take care and God bless,

Shawn Haggarty, Superintendent
Elk Island Catholic Schools
