QUOTE FOR THE PRINCIPAL'S JOURNEY
“The greatest products of architecture are less the works of individuals than of society; rather the offspring of a nation's effort, than the inspired flash of a man of genius.”

Update From the Executive Director
The Power of A Place
All of us will remember this week as we recall the image of Notre Dame Cathedral burning. Like many of you, I spent much time watching and listening to the horrific news coming from Paris. This past week, I reminisced on the two trips to France during my tenure as the principal of Staley High School accompanying French students. My two favorite places to visit were Normandy and Notre Dame. In Russell Moore's Blog, he references the Cathedral and "the power of a place." With 30,000-60,000 visitors each day to this 850-year-old place, there must be something about "the power of a place." With its massive arches, beautiful stained glass windows, twin towers, flying buttresses, and gargoyles, "this place" maintains a tradition that has lasted centuries. One of the commentators mentioned that people leave the Cathedral in better shape than when they arrived. Another news outlet referenced the Cathedral as old but not out of date. As you lead your school, never underestimate "the power of your place" and the critical element of tradition. When you link "the power of your place," with tradition, and genuine relationships with people, your school will be the strength of the community and a symbol of inspiration. Your students will leave you better than when they arrived.

25th Annual Missouri Scholars 100
In 1995, Dr. Robert C. Howe's vision became a reality. His goal was to create a program recognizing 100 of the outstanding seniors in Missouri. Twenty-five years later, this traditional event is one of the premier academic celebrations in America. I have included samples of headlines, pictures, and articles highlighting some of the best our state has to offer for 2019.
Legislative Update from Jeff City
There are about four weeks left in the session and anything can still happen with Charter School Expansion, vouchers, etc. For a rundown on recent days at the State Capitol with education issues, go to Missourinet. The State Capitol is closed today and Monday for Easter recess. Doug and I will be back in Jeff City on Tuesday of next week with our lobbyists.
Regional Meetings & Recognitions
Doug and I visited Central MoASSP Spring Awards Dinner this past week in Warrensburg. I was able to attend Northwest MoASSP's final meeting of the year this week. GKC MoASSP had their awards banquet on Wednesday. Congratulations to all of the award winners from each of the Regions. Many of the Regions surprised recipients with "Prize Patrols" at their respective schools, which is a lot of fun and makes a memory for those chosen. We will recognize all of the award winners during the 85th Annual Fall Conference September 29-October 1 where all roads lead to Columbia.

Attention Northwest Principals
We have the opportunity to bring the nationally known EdTechTeam to the Saint Joseph area for an EdTechTeam Summit. We are interested in hosting this incredible event at our school but would love to partner with you in the event. We are looking at several date options with the Google team. However, it is relatively flexible. It is two full days and would take place at some point July 9-11 or July 16-18 here at Mid-Buchanan High School.
Please reply to me personally and let me know if you would be interested in sending teachers to this event this June. Here's the information I need to know:
- How many individuals would plan on sending?
- Do you have a preference on dates?
We are moving relatively quickly on this, so I need to know by the end of the day on Wednesday, April 24. We need to know what the interest in this event would be before we can sign on with the EdTechTeam. This is not a solid commitment, but it is necessary to get us to determine if this is a possibility. So, if you say you are sending 10 and you end up with 8 or 12, it's not a problem at all. This is a truly valuable professional learning experience for teachers, administrators, and support staff and I am excited to have you join us as partners in the event.
Thanks!
