Returning to In-Person Learning
Date to return: January 19, 2021
Dear Walden Families,
Sincerely,
Stephanie Strenger
In-Person Learning Procedures
In anticipation of returning to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19th, please take a moment and review the protocol video linked here that was shared back in September. The only important change is that our arrival times are now 10 minutes before school instead of 15. Students will be allowed to enter the building at 8:30 for AM sessions and 12:50 for PM sessions. The video has not been updated to reflect this change so please note this adjustment.
School Day Times
AM Session: 8:40 - 11:05 (Wednesday: 8:40 - 10:35)
PM Session: 1:00-3:25 (Wednesday: 12:30 - 2:25)
Self-Certification Process
As a reminder, all students attending in-person learning will need a self-certification form filled out by a parent/guardian by 7:45am in both AM and PM sessions. This reminder will continue to be emailed every morning. We ask that families do everything they can to remain diligent with this process in order for a smooth start to the day. Students that come to school without a completed form will need to wait outside and be certified at the door by a staff member. For your reference, the links are provided below.

PM Session form: bit.ly/walpmsc
You will receive the daily self-certification form beginning tomorrow, January 13, despite the fact that students will not return to in-person learning until Tuesday, January 19. Beginning this process on Wednesday allows you to familiarize yourself with the self-certification form and develop a routine for completing this form each day. Beginning this process tomorrow also allows our administrators and school nurses to connect with families of students who do not meet the criteria for entering the school building and see if they qualify for free on-site COVID testing outside the district office.

Arrival/Dismissal
Please see the map below that shows student entrances for arrival. All doors for students remain the same for dismissal except students in Ms. Lacefield, Ms. Grossman, and Mrs. Fraboni’s class. They will exit through the front doors at dismissal. All late arrivals will need to enter through the front doors of the school.
Items to Bring
Please ensure that your child returns to school with the following:
- Black bin of materials
- Face covering
- Water bottle
- Charged device
Students do not need to bring snow pants since we will not be having recess at this time and additional gear will take up extra time storing.
School Grounds
We ask that students walk themselves to their doors in grades 2-5 on the first day we return in person. If parents need to assist their child in K-1 for the first few days back, we understand the need for a healthy transition. If you feel that your child will need any additional support transitioning back to school, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher and we will do everything possible to accommodate. Everyone on school grounds will need to remember to wear a face covering at all times. Only students are allowed in the building at this time (aside from the foyer). Thank you for your cooperation.
Parking Lot
Please abide by the rules of the road in our parking lot. Families may not drop off or pick up at the entrance of our lot near the bus circle. Please pull all the way forward when dropping off or picking up. Thank you.
Class Placement
All families that were impacted by class placement changes due to switching to or from the different hybrid learning models have already been contacted by our school about any updates. Your child will remain in the same AM or PM assigned sessions as in the Fall unless you have heard otherwise from our school.
District Website
The district has put together a wonderful NEW resource for our community on our district’s website. Information includes school exclusion scenarios, contact information, technology help information, etc. Click below to view the website and stay informed.
Teamwork
As we return to school next week, we want to remember the importance of our home/school partnership. Please always know that we are here to support you and your family in any way possible. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Most importantly, in order to continue to keep our students and community safe, we ask that our lines of communication remain open. If your child is not feeling well, please let us know and keep your child home from school. We will work together to navigate the process together. Thank you!
