Week of May 23rd
Quick Message from Mr. Roorda
Good evening parents.
This is the last newsletter of the year. Next week is the last week of school. We have Water Day, 5th Grade Promotion, Career Vehicle Day and a Half Day on Thursday. That is a whole lot of fun to cram into 3.5 days. I want to thank all of you for your kindness, support, and patience this year as we navigated through the pandemic again. I hope you all have a great summer!
Water Days are here!
May 23rd is Water Day for K-2.
May 24th is Water Day for 3-5.
Are bathing suits allowed? Swim trunks are allowed, however, all other bathing suits must be covered with shorts and a shirt.
Can you come and watch your child?: Parents are NOT allowed to just come and watch. Parents who signed up to volunteer will be the only parents allowed at water day.
If you want your child to have sunscreen on, please apply it before sending them to school.
Students will need to bring a change of clothes (under garments, shoes, socks, everything you can think of), and a plastic bag to put wet clothes in.
Wednesday is 5th Grade Promotion Ceremony @ 8:30 am.
Students will be given two tickets for guests on May 23rd. Doors will open at 8:00 am. Please come to the cafeteria doors for entrance into the promotion ceremony. Please be mindful that parking will be limited due to Career Vehicle Day and ongoing construction. Due to limited seating, we are unable to accommodate siblings who also attend India Hook.
Thursday, May 26th, is a HALF DAY. Please make sure if your child will be going home a different way, to send a hand-written note to their teacher. There is NO challenger on this day.
Today was another "Dad Joke Friday". This is something new I started at the beginning of this month and I think the students are enjoying it.
This week's jokes:
"Why didn't the skeleton climb the mountain?" Because he didn't have the guts.
"What does a bee use to brush its hair?" A honeycomb
"Why did the Math book look so sad?" Because it had so many problems.
And two from some second grade friends:
"What happens when it rains cats and dogs?" You can step in a poodle.
"What dog keeps the best time?" A watch dog.
Have a great night!
DELAY in ART SHOW ORDERS
Below is a message from Artome, the company we used for our Art Show.
Hello India Hook families,
This message is from Artomé School Art Shows.
This email is going out to all families who participated in Your Art Show event the week of April 24th. Thank you very much for supporting the India Hook Art Department led by Gina Thomas. Artomé Art Shows is proud to have been a part in helping to celebrate the students' beautiful creativity at your event.
The reason for this email, Artomé has experienced a severe supply chain shortage of the material we use to construct new frames out of our Georgia facility, which is why your outstanding order is on delay. We sincerely apologize for this delay and inconvenience. We promise if you have an order that it will get either shipped to the school in a couple of weeks depending on your summer dismissal or we will ship it to your home address that is listed on your order.
If you did not provide your home shipping address, please email email@example.com Subject Titled: SHIPPING ADDRESS along with your Order Confirmation Number or payment transaction ID and the associated artist's names.
All original artwork will be shipped back to the school soon. The Shipping Facility manager has apologized for all delays. They are still in their extremely busy season of current Art Show events and are experiencing a shortage of employees as well.
If you feel your issue is beyond the scope of this e-mail or you require additional assistance, you can reach us by Chat Monday through Friday from 8am-8pm eastern or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Due to this situation, we have received an extremely high volume of help requests, which has impacted the ability of Customer Support and Coordination teams to reply as quickly as we would like! Please allow up to 7 days to receive a response. I promise we are not ignoring you and will reply as soon as possible!

SAVE THOSE TABS!!!
TEACHER OF THE YEAR FORUM SERVICE PROJECT 2022
One mission of the Teacher of the Year Forum is to give back to the community. This year the forum has decided to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities by collecting metal tabs.
"POP or SODA TABS -The sweetest way to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities."
Did you know:
It takes approximately 1,128 pop tabs to equal one pound. We typically receive between $0.40 to $0.50 per pound of pop tabs. This program brings in an average of $6,000 each year. Last year you donated over 13 million pop tabs! We accept more than just soda pop tabs. The tabs can come from energy drinks, soup cans, or anything with a metallic tab.
Our Pop Tab program is important because it provides extra revenue that can help make up for the donations that families cannot make. To house one family at Ronald McDonald House Charities© of the Coastal Empire is between $100-$140 per night.
We have a bucket in the Atrium to collect these tabs for another two weeks. Please help us by adding to our collection and supporting a good cause.
PAINT OUR ROCKS!
There are 2 rocks - one at the front of the building and one at the back of the building. It is only a $10 donation to the PTO to paint the rock.
Sign up for your date(s) using the links below - this will take you to a "Sign Up Genius". (The calendar in the Sign Up Genius only populates a certain number of days. The remaining days of the school year will be available in November.)
Be sure to click "Submit and Sign Up" on the Sign Up Genius page so that your dates will be reserved. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE TWO ROCK OPTIONS. Please be careful when signing up! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact our PTO @ email@example.com
Thank you for your support!
ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL
Morning Drop Off
We will have Safety Patrol helping us unload students. Please make sure your child is ready to get out of the car as you pull up. Students should exit from the right side of the car if possible.
We are working on fostering independence in our students and discourage you walking your child into the building. However, please use the left lane and pull into our parking lot if you are still needing to do this for a few more days.
Afternoon Pick Up
Please have your "Car Rider" tag visible in your windshield so we may call your child's name. Stay consistent with the side you pick up on for familiarity and ease for your child.
Change in Transportation
If you have a change in transportation for your student, please notify the office in writing on the day of the change.

Please remind your student the importance of following the rules of the bus at all times. The safe transportation to and from school of all of our students is our highest priority.
