Upcoming Online Assessment for Reading and Math
We will be using a new diagnostic tool this year to inform our reading and math instruction called i-Ready. i-Ready will help us monitor academic progress throughout the school year. Feel free to watch this short video about iReady. What is i-Ready?
How does the diagnostic work?
This adaptive tool adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each new question is based on their answer to the previous question. Due to the adaptive system, it is assumed that a child may miss at least half of the questions. No grade is given because the purpose is to determine how best to support their learning. Therefore, please refrain from helping your student.
How can I help my child prepare for the i-Ready diagnostic?
Remind them:
Have paper and pencil ready to go. Put all other devices and tools away.
Do their best on each question.
The test is adaptive - some questions will be easy and some they will not know. It is expected they will get only about half of the questions correct.
They must answer each question before they move to the next question.
The test is finding out what they know and what they still need to learn; it is not graded.
The teacher/proctor’s Zoom will remain open and the iReady will be monitored.
Return to the Zoom screen at the end time given by the teacher/proctor.
Please direct questions to your classroom teacher. Parents, please refrain from helping students with the diagnostic.
When will I find out my child’s results?
Once the testing is complete, data and diagnostics will be shared with teachers. We will be given training on how to interpret iReady results in the coming weeks. Teaches and teams will be able to utilize the information to help guide instruction. You can expect to see a more detailed report once we have completed the initial diagnostic district-wide.
Action Required: Authenticate Student Zoom Account
Help Us Keep Zoom Humming
Help keep Zoom sessions humming by creating a calm and quiet work space away from distractions and noise. Headphones help minimize feedback and other noises, especially if more than one child is sharing a learning space.
Science Resources for Parents
Mr. Zurcher has created a parent resource website to support science lessons. This site includes material lists. Note that you may substitute materials as necessary. The link to this site is also include on the bottom of this newsletter under Helpful Links. As a reminder, science lessons are posted in Google Classrooms on a rotating basis.
If you are unable to purchase or have limited access, we have a limited amount of science supplies that are available to you from the Lake Oswego School District. This is based on need, not convenience. https://forms.gle/ed89o7pum2JatXZf9

Getting Started Tech Support
Tech Information Sessions
LOSD hosted two Tech Information Sessions covering the “how tos'' for getting started with distance learning. The session recordings and presentations are posted on the district site under Resources/Tech Support for Families.
Tech Support Ticket
A majority of tech concerns can be resolved by submitting a Tech Support ticket -- the link is on all school and district homepages for easy access to help with passwords, log-ins, hardware fixes, etc.
Google Classroom Guardianship
By now all parents and guardians should have received an email requesting you to accept guardianship of your student's Google Classroom. If you need assistance with this request, please submit a request through the Tech Support button. Note: accepting guardianship simply gives you the option of selecting how often you would like to receive summaries (weekly, daily, or no summary) of your student's Google Classroom activity. Only student accounts have access to Google Classroom.
