Principal's Message - April 2021

Dear Kelly Creek Elementary School Community,

I hope everyone had a fantastic Spring Break! It does not seem possible that it is already April and that we only have 10 more weeks left of the 2020 - 2021 school year. As wild as this school year has been, I am confident we can finish the year strong, especially with our transition to hybrid instruction. With that being said, I would love to give a huge shout-out to all the teachers and staff for their tireless work, enthusiasm, and dedication to making the hybrid model successful. Our teachers have put in countless hours planning and preparing for our fantastic students to return to school. Additionally, our school secretaries, custodians, and educational assistants have done an outstanding job getting our school and students ready for our return to school.

With any change, I understand that adjustments might need to be made and I appreciate the flexibility and grace of the KCES school community. It sounds strange to say in April, but I am excited to finally get to know the students and families of KCES - I look forward to our hallways being filled with smiling faces!

For those families that have chosen our Hybrid Model of Instruction, please ensure that you are familiar with the KCES Return to Learn Plan.

Some big news was announced by the Gresham-Barlow School District on March 31st. Our Superintendent, Dr. Katrise Perera, will be leaving the Gresham-Barlow School District effective June 30, 2021. Dr. Perera will be the new Superintendent of the Lancaster Independent School District in Texas. The school board will be determining the next steps to replace Dr. Perera soon. Once more information becomes available, I will share it with our school community!

Hybrid Instructional Model

KCES Families,

For those families that have chosen to return to KCES for our Hybrid Instructional Model, please ensure you're familiar with our Return to Learn Plan. This plan has important information on the safety protocols we have put in place to ensure that all of our staff and students remain safe.

Please take note of the start dates for our Hybrid Instructional Model:

04/01 - K & 1st Grade ONLY - Cohort B Starts

04/05 - K & 1st Grade ONLY - Cohort A Starts

04/08 - 2nd - 5th Grade - Cohort B Starts

04/12 - 2nd - 5th Grade - Cohort A Starts

During our Materials Distribution event, families that selected hybrid received a packet of information in regards to transportation. That packet included a blue placard for families that are driving to KCES to pick up their child at 2:35. On the blue placard, you will need to write your child's name and the teacher's name. Place the placard in your windshield so we can easily call for students to be released from their classrooms. This will make our dismissal procedures run efficiently and wait times will be reduced.

I would be more than happy to answer any additional questions you might have about our return to the school building. I can be reached via e-mail at maranto2@gresham.k12.or.us.

Thank you,

Sam Maranto

In-District Transfer Request

In-District transfer requests are now open for the 2021 - 2022 school year. If you would like to attend a different school in GBSD or if you moved out of the KCES boundary and are still within the GBSD, you can fill out a transfer request. Transfer requests are not guaranteed, the school district will notify you of the outcome of your requests. Decisions will not be made until the summer months in order for the schools to get a better picture of the 2021-2022 enrollment.

This year transfer requests will be done electronically. Below are the links to the In-District Transform Forms:
