3rd Nine Weeks Commitment for In Person vs. Online
So the Commitment Form will be sent out on January 1st with a deadline of noon on Monday, January 4th. You only need to complete the form if you are CHANGING your child's learning format (i.e. from online to in person, or in person to online).
We must have a decision by then so the teachers have time to prepare for any changes. A reminder will be sent out on Sunday the 3rd and the form will close at noon on the 4th.
Update from the Texas Education Agency
The Texas Education Agency has issued guidance that allows school districts to stop offering virtual instruction to individual students with poor grades or attendance. Texas public school districts are not required to provide online-only classes to all students. Districts must offer in-person instruction to those families that want it. Under the new guidance, districts now can deny virtual instruction to children with an average grade of less than 70 in their classes or at least three unexcused absences in a grading period. Districts must notify parents and guardians at least two weeks in advance about their intention to stop offering virtual classes to a student. Families can appeal the decision by submitting medical documentation or seeking a “transition meeting” to discuss options.
Congratulations to Sarvesh Nair!
Sarvesh (3rd grade) won 2nd place in the 75th Annual Texas State K-12 Under 1200 Scholastic on Saturday, November 28th. We are so proud of you!
How to Talk to your Children about Work
Examples of questions include:
- Do you know what I do for work?
- Do you know why the work I do is important to me and others?
- Do you know how I spend my time while I am working?
- What do you do when you are in school?
This is also a chance to discuss changes to work and school. You might ask:
- This time has brought a lot of changes to our work and school schedules. What is harder or easier about school now? What helps you when things get harder? In what ways may I support you when you are having trouble?
- Do you think the changes during this time have brought about any positives to our family?
