Be the Best YOU at Grandview!!!
I am Thankful!!
November is the month of Thanksgiving and a month to express our thanks. I have committed this month to the 30 Days of Thankfulness Challenge. I am tweeted my thankfulness each day on Twitter and I love how many staff and parents are joining the challenge. I would love for more to join. They say people that keep track of their gratitude are healthier and happier people. Come join the challenge....https://www.livestrong.com/article/1012476-30-days-thankfulness-challenge/
Below is one way that your entire family can join the challenge. Though there are other ways, just come join the movement!
Though if you are not following Grandview on Twitter, you may not see what I am grateful for, but Grandview is one major thing I am grateful for. I am grateful to the parents for welcoming me and trusting my leadership. I am grateful for the Grandview staff as they continue to challenge our students and help to prepare them to be independent and eager learners. Most importantly, I am thankful for the Grandview students. The and willingness to learn each and every day is so appreciated.
Enjoy the gratitude this month!!
Your Proud Principal,
Melissa Carruth, Ed.S

Tardy
We have had a lot of students arriving late. Tardies start at 8:40 and will be tracked. If your child comes in after the class did the lunch count, then they will automatically get PB&J as their lunch choice. Lunch counts will not be finalized until after 8:40. If you know your child is going to be late, then please call in the tardy and select your child's lunch choice to ensure that they can get another choice. Our lunch counts are becoming very lopsided and we need to ensure that the children are getting the choice that they signed up for. Also we need our students on time for school!!
Conferences
OK2Say!
The Department of Attorney General is proud to feature two customized programs to protect children across the state: OK2SAY—Michigan’s student safety program and the Michigan Cyber Safety Initiative. To date, nearly 2 million student have attended a student safety presentation.
K - 1st Grade: The primary theme of the presentation is the “3 Keeps.” Students are instructed to (1) Keep Safe by carefully guarding their personal information online; (2) Keep Away from Internet strangers; and (3) Keep Telling parents or a trusted adult about anything that makes them uncomfortable. Using short child-friendly videos to reinforce key messages, students learn how to recognize bullying behaviors and respond accordingly. Students learn the difference between tattling and telling so they know when it is appropriate to involve an adult.
2nd - 3rd Grade: The topics covered in the K-1st grade seminar are addressed more thoroughly. The presentation discusses important rules for being safe online and encourages students to seek the help of a trusted adult when faced with challenging situations. Using Brain Pop videos, students learn to recognize bullying and cyberbullying behavior and how to respond accordingly.
4th - 5th Grade: Building upon the lessons in the 2-3 grade presentation, this seminar illustrates the importance of limiting how much personal information is shared online. Students learn to recognize common techniques used by Internet predators and effective responses to bullying and cyberbullying. The students are also introduced to the OK2SAY student safety program and encouraged to always talk to a trusted adult before contacting OK2SAY.

Bookflix for Grandview Families
The Michigan eLibrary did not renew their subscription to Bookflix. We found great value in this site for our children. Therefore, Grandview purchased a school subscription that allows teachers and students to use the following username and password to access Bookflix at home and at school. Please feel free to use this at home. The link is as follows.....
https://digital.scholastic.com/site/launch/bkflix?ucn=600063987
There is a link on the Library symbaloo and will be putting a link under the student links on the Clarenceville website.
Username: grandvw
Password: flix
If you click on the apple and book in the top right corner, it takes you to a Resources and Tools page where you can search for books, search by themes, running times and grade levels.
This is another way to engage your students with their learning at home.
Enjoy!!!
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts
Meetings are underway for both of these great organizations. Girl Scouts will be meeting on Wednesdays and Boy Scouts will be meeting on Mondays at 6:30. Come join the fun!
Transportation Changes
Do not rely on just the office for transportation changes. It is important that you also put it in writing in an email to the teacher. If you alert the teacher and the office, chances are better that the message is delivered accurately. We have so many transportation changes at the end of the day that makes us uneasy that a mistake could occur. Please do not make a change after 3:00!!
