FAC Weekly Update

Good Afternoon, Fine Arts Center Family
I hope that you had a wonderful week!
As we close out the school year at the FAC, I would like to wish all of our FAC Families a safe, happy, and healthy summer. May we all use this time to recharge our batteries and make memories with our loved ones. For artists, the summer break is the time for us to delve deeply into independent artmaking, taking advantage of the extra time to "level up" on our skills. As a saxophonist, I enjoy this opportunity to address weaknesses and build strengths so that I am ready for the next school year. Our School Team will be hard at work in addressing any areas where we found ourselves lacking, and setting our students up for their best school year yet.
Keep an eye on your email for Summer Updates, which should come in early July and again in early August. Our Summer Office Hours begin the week of June 7, and are Monday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

You "had our back" throughout all of the schedule changes, generously donated to staff appreciation events, and helped us to keep our students motivated and growing. This Week's Student Leadership Lesson

Digital Film Screening - TONIGHT! Friday, May 28 - 7:00 p.m.
The final FAC event of the school year is the Digital Film Screening, where our Media Tech and Digital Filmmaking Students will be screening films they’ve produced over the past school year.
This event is limited to Digital Film Studio students and families. Eric Rogers has emailed ticket info. We will publish the web link to all other FAC families so that you can watch the films from home.
FAC T-Shirt Design Contest Winners!
Congratulations to
Tomoka Nakamura (AM Design Studio) and
Katerina Sanchez (AM Design Studio) for having their entries selected as winners of the first annual FAC t-shirt design contest! A committee comprised of students and faculty had the difficult task of selecting the winners, and we thank all students who entered.
Tomoka's design will be used on the 2021-2022 FAC t-shirt, and Katerina's will be used on the 2021-2022 FAC car magnet. We will have both items for sale at the start of the next school year. Please see below for the winning images.

Coming to the Sheffield Wood Gallery - "Big Body Play" by TSA GVL
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Greenville (TSA GVL) and the Fine Arts Center (FAC) are excited to present their summer exhibition, BIG BODY PLAY, on exhibition from June 7th through September 10th at the FAC’s Sheffield Wood Gallery. Visits to the gallery are by appointment only - Monday - Thursday, 10am -4pm. Sign up for an appointment by using the following
link. A closing reception will be held on Friday, September 10th from 6-8pm including artist presentations and performance from 6:30-7.

Thank You, Ms. Cotter!
It is with a heart full of gratitude for her dedication to our students, staff, and school that we inform you that our Assistant Director, Ms. Kaci Cotter, has accepted a School Administration position in her hometown school district. Ms. Cotter's energy, meticulous attention to detail, and empathetic nature will be truly missed at the FAC. We are thrilled for her that she can bring her skills back to the place where she was both a student and a teacher.

More College Credit Opportunities!
Earlier this school year, I included information on a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Clemson University that was renewed for a 5-year period. I am pleased to inform you that we have just signed
two additional Memoranda that will go into place for the coming school year and will also have 5-year terms. The following MOAs are now in place for our FAC students:
- Agreement with Clemson University to earn credit through course completion and portfolio development/passing of a challenge exam in FAC Architecture, Music (Theory and Recording Arts), Theatre, and Visual Arts.
- Agreement with Coastal Carolina University to earn credit through course completion and portfolio development/passing of a challenge exam in FAC Visual Arts and Music (Theory and Recording Arts) (NEW!). An agreement for Creative Writing should be finalized soon.
- Agreement with Winthrop University to earn credit through course completion and portfolio development/passing of a challenge exam in FAC Dance, Music (Theory and Recording Arts), Theatre, and Visual Arts.
This agreement is accessible to students who are in the upper-level courses for the aforementioned programs. Please have your child reach out to their Instructor to inquire about any of the above opportunities.
