Hello Families!
I would like to send this information once more to everyone in case anyone missed it being sent to families yesterday.
By now you have probably seen the news from City Schools of Decatur that most staff and students will not return to in-person learning until at least January. Please know that we will continue to provide our students with an exceptional virtual learning experience! I am so proud of the work that our teachers and staff are doing to ensure an engaging experience for all students.
I would like to take a moment to thank our COVID-19 School Readiness Team for the many hours of work that they have put into helping to create our school’s reopening plan. We have created an excellent plan and will work to continue to fine-tune it so that we can share it with you and ensure that we are prepared when it is time to return. We have also ordered all of the supplies and materials we will need to ensure a safe return including masks for kids and staff, shields, plexiglass and cleaning and sanitizing supplies.
As always, please reach out to me with any questions or concerns!
Warmest Regards,
Dr. Holly Brookins

Glennwood's FLYbrary Continues
1. Please watch this video tutorial on how to place books on hold.
Check-out period will be up to 3 weeks. However, if you would like for your child to have weekly pick up, plan to return books before the Monday cut off time at 12:00 pm so that new books may be checked out to your child.
Students may check out 4 books at a time.
Books may be returned to the school anytime and placed in the container on the front doorsteps at the front entrance.
- Books may be picked up on Tuesdays from 11:30 am - 3:30 pm. If books are not picked up by 3:30 pm, we will hold them until the following week.
2. Because of the large volume of books that will be checked out one day per week, all student holds must be placed by 12:00 pm every Monday. If a hold is placed after this time, the books will be checked out the following week.
3. Please recycle! Your books will be delivered in a plastic bag. Please return your books in the same plastic bag so that we may recycle these week to week.
If you have any questions regarding GL FLYbrary, please email Mrs. Rittenhouse at drittenhouse@csdecatur.net or Mrs. Dishman at adishman@csdecatur.net. Thank you!

Glennwood Elementary PTA Equity Series The Myths of Racism and Beyond: Personal and Community Reflections
The Glennwood Elementary PTA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is sponsoring a series for parents and faculty entitled: The Myths of Racism and Beyond: Personal and Community Reflections.
Whether you are a social justice champion or wrestling with these topics for the first time, this workshop will help all of us deepen our understanding of racism and strengthen our commitment to action.
Through independent individual reflections in a personal journal and group sessions reflecting as a community once a month, our Glennwood Elementary community will examine the power of race and discuss its impact across racial lines. Everyone is invited to provide their voice, perspective, and experiences with the power of race.
Specifically, the series will cover the article “The 10 Myths White People Believe About Racism,” with a paired bite-sized reading and short racial equity video assigned each month.
The series will include time for independent individual reflections through a personal journal and time for community reflections during group discussions once a month.
If you are a parent who participated this summer in our last Myths session, the series will build off that experience. If you are joining the conversation for the first time, we welcome you!
Community Reflections will be Tuesdays 8-9pm on Zoom on the following dates.
Oct 27
Nov 17
Jan 19
Feb 23
Mar 16
Apr 20
May 11
If you are unable to attend all sessions, you can work through the personal reflections asynchronously and join the community reflections as you can.
If you are considering participating, please fill out this google form. Email Charlie Copp at charlesdcopp@gmail.com with any questions. Charlie is a CSD parent and will help facilitate the series.
