WINNING WOLVES
CHS Theater
Stephanie Likes, Chandler High School’s Theater Teacher, was honored by the Disney Performing Arts Department at An Educators Summit--Inspiring Brilliance last week. Ms. Likes was recognized in part because of her past professional experience as a lead performer over five years at Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland and on the Disney Magic Cruise Ship. After that she spent two years performing in Les Miserables on tour and on Broadway. She continues to perform in television, commercials, film, voice over and stage. In her first year as theater teacher/director at CHS, her students won acting awards from National Youth Arts for actors in The Crucible and Seussical the Musical. Last spring NYA also awarded the cast of Seussical the Musical the “Outstanding Ensemble” award. Congratulations, Ms. Likes!

CUSD BOND FACTS: DID YOU KNOW?
1 - Why does the district sell bonds to to meet its capital needs?
During the great recession, the State cut virtually all capital funds provided to build/renovate schools. In 2008 the district received $25,000,000 in capital funding. Effective in 2009 to present, the district has received no funding to build/renovate schools.
2 - Why does the District sell bonds to renovate facilities?
We have an obligation to maintain the community’s investments in our buildings and grounds. Wear and tear is extraordinary; imagine 500 students using your bathroom, once a day or more, 180 days a school year for 20 years. We try to renovate restrooms every 20 years!
For additional information, visit the district website.
Following the 2012 elections, Arizona ranked 45th in the nation for voter turnout. To combat this startling statistic, O’Connor House, the legacy project of Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, has launched a new voter engagement initiative, The Great Voter Challenge. Register to vote here.
“Roughly half of Arizona voters actually vote and that’s frightening. I hope that we can encourage every citizen to register and vote. It’s so important, and Arizona can do better on that score.” - Justice Sandra Day O’Connor
In order to vote in the November election, you must register by October 5, 2015. Ballots will be mailed on October 8, 2015. Election Day is November 3, 2015.
