what is the excretory system?

The Excretory system is a passive biological system that removes excess waste out of an organism, unnecessary materials from an organism, and gaseous waste, so as to help maintain homeostasis within the organism and prevent damage to the body.

The excretory system consits of the Ureter, Kidney, Bladder, and Urethra

Ureter-a tube that takes the urine from your kidney to your urinary bladder. Your body contains 2 ureters one for each kidney. The upper part of your ureter is located in the abdumum and the lower half is located in the Relvic.

Kidney-It sits against the back muscle in the upper ab. cavity. They sit on each side of the Spine. The right kidney sits a little lower then the left to accomodate the liver. The kidney's are multi-talented powerhouse for activity with the urinary system. The kidneys filter toxins, and excess salt. It also produces the liquid waste.

Bladder-Is like a stomach that is an expandable sac that contracts when it's empty. The fold inside tucks under to accomodate liquid. As the bladder fills with 2 ureters- tubes to expel urine from the kidneys to the bladder. Typical human bladder reaches it's capacity between 16-24oz urine. The urge to urinate comes when the bladder is about 1-quarter full.

Urethra- Is the tube that connects the urinary bladder to the outside part of the body. It allows urine to flow out of the body. The urethra also carries semen for men. The women's is short and above the vagina.

What body systems does the Excretory System interact with?

Disease of the Excretory sysytem

Nephritis- Caused by inflammation of the 1st part of Nephron (basic Kidney unit) called glomerulus. Symptoms-1.smelly urine. 2. pain in lower ab. 3. blood in urine

Treatment- Antibiotics can be used to treat this condition.

Kidney stone-Change increase in salt, and mineral levels and other substances in the urine.

Symptoms- 1. vomiting/nausea 2. painful urination 3. frequent urination 4.fever/chills 5.bloody smelly urine 6. sharp pain in the back/side.Treatment-reduced size of stones tend to pass out of the body without requiring surgery.

Urethral Stricture-It can be caused by infection of the urinary tract and injuries due to pelvic fraction. Symptoms- 1. pain with urinating 2. reduction in urine flow 3. urine retention in the bladder 4. more time required for urination 5. feeling of never emptying your bladder 6.blood in the urine

*There are more diseases but there were to many to name.

If you damage it, will it affect your life?

Though men also suffer from this problem , the problem is nearly 8 times more in women than men. It's been found that 15% of women suffer from Cystitis annually .
