Warhawk Weekly - September 12, 2022
STEP UP TO THE PLATE
The Hall Way...
Hello Warhawks!
Smile, Warhawks! Picture Day is Monday, September 12. Orders can be placed online and the link can be found below. We also sent home a flyer with students last week.
We are halfway through first quarter and progress report grades will be updated for first quarter on September 15. Please ask your student if they are keeping up with their work or if they need any support from their teachers. One way to help them manage their different classes is to remind them make sure all of their work is turned in when it is assigned.so they do not get behind and overwhelmed. It also would be a good time to check in with them to make sure they are staying organized and prepared for school each day. Encourage them to send their teachers an email or ask them in class if they need any help.
The PowerSchool Parent Portal is a great way for you to support your student. Log in together to see their grades and progress in their classes. If you need help with your login information, please give our office a call at 815-338-4900. The link to the Parent Portal can be found below,.
The Warhawk Weekly is our newsletter for families and students. Each week we will share important updates and information. Please contact the school office with any questions and/or concerns you have now or anytime throughout the school year. Together we can provide a positive environment for our students to be successful and to support them to STEP UP TO THE PLATE!

Baier's Box - News from the Assistant Principal
As you may know the hallways here at Northwood can get pretty congested and some undesirable behaviors occur. Recently, we have had water that is being squirted down the halls and on individuals. This has caused some individuals to slip and fall, clothes getting wet, and unneeded work for our custodial staff. As of Monday, September 12th, we ask that students do not bring in athletic squirt water bottles to school.
Thank you for all your support and go WARHAWKS!
Picture Day is next Monday, September 12!

If you went through the checklist below, how many could you check off? Stay tuned as we will explore the important things your brain needs to be READY TO LEARN!
Help NMS Build an Outdoor Classroom
We recently found out that the program that builds our outdoor classroom benches is no longer taking orders. :( We are looking for a new company, but will not be collecting caps at this time.
If we cannot find a new company to build benches we will fundraise to purchase more picnic tables for our courtyard and outdoor classroom.

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Arrival will begin at 8:15 am. Between 8:15 and 8:30 am students may enter through the main entrance at Door 2. Breakfast will be available for students in the cafeteria at arrival. Students will stay in the cafeteria until the 8:30 bell when they can go to their locker, use the restroom, and get to their homeroom.
Student vehicle drop off will begin at 8:15 am and take place in the north parking lot.
- Vehicles will enter through the north entrance then enter the parking lot to drop off their students.
- Once you are stopped along the cones your student can exit the vehicle.
- Vehicles may have to drive down to Mary Endres to turn around to avoid back up on Rt 47.
- Busses will be dropping off in the circle drive, so please only drop your student off in the north lot. While in the Mary Endres parking lot please keep the curb and driveway to the back of the building clear so vehicles from Mary Endres can exit.
Students will enter through two designated entrances in the front of the building based on their grade level between 8:15 and 8:30 am.
- 6th: (Door 1 by the Library) after 8:30 am
- 7th & 8th Grade (Door 2 - Main entrance by the courtyard)
- Students will be dismissed at 3:35 pm from the building.
- Pick up areas will be the same for dismissal.
- Vehicles must drive down to Mary Endres to turn around to avoid back up on Rt 47.
- Please pull up as far as you can before your student enters your vehicle so we can keep a steady flow to the line.
A map for drop off/pick up are linked below. Thank you for your help during arrival and dismissal.
While in the Mary Endres parking lot please keep the curb and driveway to the back of the building clear so vehicles from Mary Endres can exit.

News from the Nurse
Northwood Families,
Just a reminder that if your student requires any medication to be given or used during the school day, a new medication authorization form needs to be completed by a parent/guardian AND health care provider. If your student uses an inhaler or EpiPen and is able to administer those medications to themselves, then a "Self administration form" needs to be completed by both parent/guardian AND health care provider and returned to the health office. Those are the only two medications that a student may give themselves at school, as long as that form is completed and handed in.
Any ordered medications to be dispensed at school can be dropped off by a parent or guardian. The medication must be in the original, labeled, and unopened container, along with the medication authorization form completed. If the medication is over the counter, it still requires an order medication authorization form. Due to cabinet space, we ask that all medication is in a small bottle.
Also, please remember that all sixth graders and new students to the school are required by the state of Illinois to have a new physical and dental exam. Please feel free to email the information to me at ngrismer@wcusd200.org or drop off the paperwork at the front office. If you send the paperwork in with your child please touch base with me to ensure that I have received it, many times it remains in the backpack. If you have any questions, please reach out.
I look forward to seeing you all soon!
