Happy New Year!
We hope you all had a wonderful winter break and were able to enjoy some quality time together. The weather was all over the place and we hope that you all stayed warm when it was frigid cold and then were able to get out and play and enjoy the 60 degree days! With the weather continuing to bounce around please make sure that your children are dressed appropriately each day as we will go out to recess so long as the temperature is above 15, the wind chill is above 0 and there is not falling moisture (more than a sprinkle or mist).
As we move into this new year we are looking forward to continuing to partner with you all for the success of your children. Second semester always seems to be a whirlwind and speeds by faster than we anticipate. My goal this semester is to be able to slow down and appreciate each day and share that appreciation with others. The staff we have at Nieman is truly phenomenal and works so hard each and every day for our students. Our students are simply the best; they are funny, creative, and loving! I have missed my daily hugs, high fives, and finger waves from our kiddos and can't wait to see them back on Thursday! I am also extremely grateful for our amazing families; thank you for your kindness, generosity, and feedback. Together we make Nieman the very best school to be at!
Happy New Year!

Breakfast 7:40 all other Arrival Time 7:50am
ALL OTHER STUDENTS MAY ENTER THE BUILDING AT 7:50am
There are not teachers available to supervise students who arrive earlier. Teachers contract time is 7:50am, so due to the lack of teacher availability, students are not able to sit inside until 7:50am. With the cold weather upon us, we want to make sure all of our students are comfortable and safe! Please make sure you are not dropping off students earlier than 7:50am. Thank you for understanding!

Gum Free School
We have noticed a lot of mis-use of gum within the building. We have found gum on the floor, under tables and on desks. In order to keep our students safe from illness, we are going gum free. Please share this information with your child(ren). We will do the same at school.
Thank you for your support!

IMPORTANT
Keeping our Students Healthy
You may have recently heard news reports about increases of illness this fall, as is typical with this time of year. In SMSD, we have begun to see increases in absence due to illness with a few physician-diagnosed illnesses and many generalized symptoms.
One of the most important things to help decrease the spread of illness is for those who are not feeling well to stay home. If your child has a temperature of over 100.0 or has vomited or has had diarrhea, they must stay home. Students may return to school when they have been free from fever (without medication), vomiting, or diarrhea for 24 hours.
Your child may also be ill but without these symptoms. They may have a sore throat, headache, cough, or generally not feel well. If you suspect illness, please keep your child home. If in doubt about sending your child to school, contact the school nurse or your child’s doctor.

YEARBOOK DESIGNER NEEDED:
Nieman PTA is in search of a Yearbook Chairman. Our current chairman: Sommer Saunders is finishing out her last year as her youngest child is in 6th grade. Sommer would love to find someone to help her this year to take over starting the 23-24 school year. Without a Yearbook Chairman, there will be no yearbook for families and staff, so if you love to design, be creative and want to keep these school memories documented for families and staff this might be the perfect position for you! The Yearbook Chairman must also be a paid Nieman PTA member. If you are interested or would like more information, please contact Sommer at PTAmom81@gmail.com
