SB READS

The ability to adapt to a variety of social situations, to show empathy, gratitude, and care for others, is at the heart of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in South Brunswick schools. We show social awareness through mutual respect when our viewpoints differ. Reading expands our awareness as we visit new places, try on different perspectives, and learn to better understand our community. To instill social awareness takes a village: schools, families, and our community working together. Reading as a town can increase our awareness and understanding. With these principles in mind, the theme of our thirteenth South Brunswick Reads partnership will be as follows:

SB Reads for Social Awareness

We will read and come together to:

  • Develop empathy and show respect for our differences

  • Discover what we stand for and use our self awareness to inspire action

  • Celebrate our community and identify and utilize the supports that can lift us

In our schools, we will celebrate this theme by reading titles that speak to social awareness, and then center activities around these ideas. The public library will also celebrate this theme with book lists and events. Visit our South Brunswick Reads site to learn more about what is happening in our schools and libraries. Please join us as we read for social awareness. Check out our video - SB Reads for Social Awareness (2023)

Here is the link to the SB Reads Website which includes our book lists. Building specific activities or events will be added over the next few months.

10th Annual Invention Convention was a huge Success...

We are very pleased to share that the 10th annual district wide Invention Convention was held on January 21st from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This event was held in person again. Over 110 students participated in the event. It was heartwarming to witness the enthusiasm, interest and sheer ingenuity of our 4th and 5th graders as they shared their inventions with us. We had 35 teachers, administrators, and board members present to serve as judges and moderators during the event. And of course, without the support and encouragement of our parents and families this event would not have been possible. A heartfelt thank you and congratulations to all.

Thank you to the Education Foundation of South Brunswick Township who has recently awarded the SBHS Athletics Department with a grant in the amount of $2,500.
