Oak Ridge Elementary

Weekly Update September 8 - 18

What is Fruity Tuesday?

In 2011 Oak Ridge was honored to be named a Healthier US Challenge/Team Nutrition School by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Since that time, we have traditionally held Tuesdays at Oak Ridge to be "Fruity Tuesday"! Each Tuesday we encourage our students to bring a healthy fruit to school for lunch and snack. In addition, each Tuesday everyone at Oak Ridge is encouraged to wear "fruity" colors to school. Plan to bring your fruit to school on Tuesday and wear your bright-fruity colors!

Have you downloaded the latest Parent Tools?

Parents need the new GCS App!

The new app, which can be found by searching for “Guilford County Schools” through Google Play or the App Store, is just one more way parents can stay up to date with news from their child's school. Users can select which schools they wish to follow, subscribe to news and social media alerts, pay for meals, and add events to their mobile calendars. They can also access a staff directory and download eBooks through the district's eBook shelf.

Another tool that all ORE parents need to know about is Peachjar electronic backpack. This tool lets parents receive free, school-approved flyers for their child's school, straight to their email. Parents must sign up at www.peachjar.com and can choose how often they wish to receive flyers. Flyers are also visible through the GCS app.

PowerSchool resources will connect parents to their child's classroom electronically as well. Parents can check on attendance, grades and school assignments.

And when those school assignments aren’t quite as easy as parents remember, they can get free online homework help, day or night, through Brainfuse Help Now. Live tutors can assist with assignments and even critique papers.

Cash for Colts

The Oak Ridge PTO supports our school in numerous ways including volunteer support, extra curricular activities such as Extra! Extra!, and various programs throughout the year that engage our entire school community. In addition to being wonderful, hands-on partners each and every day the PTO also provides instructional supplies to classrooms through classroom mini-grants. They also support our Media Center, technology programs, and all of our specialists classrooms as well. With our regular school budget more limited than ever - we depend on our PTO for financial support throughout the year. For this reason, we ask that you please consider supporting our PTO's single cash fundraiser called Cash for Colts. Please visit our PTO website or view the items that have come home with your child that reference Cash for Colts and consider making your donation today. In doing so, you will be supporting the PTO that in turn supports our school each and every day! Thank for your continued support.
