Principal's Update

This week there has been difficult as we have had several students put in the quarantine process and had to be home for instruction.


The number of students out has risen steadily this week and is addressed by our Superintendent Dr. Ryba in a message he sent out on Friday.



I am including the message so that you can see if you didn't get the chance Friday.



Dear SHS Parents and Students:


I need your help! Although we are not changing any COVID protocols at SHS at this point in time, I need your help to make a difference so that we can continue to keep students in school and out of quarantine. Please CLICK HERE to watch a brief video on how each of us can do our part.

As a reminder the quarantine process has 3 distinct situations:


  1. A student who is unvaccinated with no mask will be quarantined if they are within 6 feet, for 15 minutes, of a student who tested positive for COVID.
  2. A student who is unvaccinated but wearing a mask will be quarantined if they are within 3 feet, for 15 minutes, of a student who tested positive.
  3. A vaccinated student, who is asymptomatic, does not have to quarantine.



At this point it is strongly recommended that students wear their masks when inside. Keeping students in class is the goal as in person learning is the best thing for students.

Parent Leadership Group

Last Spring I sent out a survey to invite parents to be part of a parent leadership group that will meet 1 time a month at the high school to work together on how to make the high school experience as positive as we can for our students.


If you have an interest in being a part of a parent group please fill out the survey below. It is my goal to have our first meeting on Tuesday, September 14th at 6 pm. I will be sending out emails to those that are already signed up as well as new sign ups this week.


COVID protocols will not be a part of our work.

Picture Day is September 14th. Order forms will be sent home with your student the first week of school.


Attention Seniors: Your yearbook photo must be taken with Lifetouch. You may have your photo taken on picture day for the yearbook. If you do not have your photo taken on picture day, you will need to call Lifetouch directly at 800-736-4775 to schedule an appointment at their location.

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! We hope you had a fun and relaxing summer! As always we’re here to support our students, teachers, staff and school by various fundraisers and events, including After Prom! Meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 9:30am at SHS, and are always informative and a great way to meet other parents! Our first meeting of the year is September 9 located in the Mustang Room, 2 nd floor in the Media Center. We’ll post reminders on our Facebook page, website and in a future newsletter. We hope you can join us!

On Wednesday September 15th we will have our first of 3 leadership seminars for student leaders in the building.


Up to 100 student leaders will be part of an interactive program for a 3 hour session:


September 15th 8am-11am

October 20th 10:30am-1:30 pm

November 18th 11am - 2 pm


The training will be interactive and support the growth of leadership skills for our students.

PSAT/NMSQT

The PSAT/NMSQT will be offered on October 13th.


We are allowing all students in grades 9-11 to participate in the test this year.


Registration will open on September 22 at 7:00 a.m. on the high school website.


Registration will close on October 6th at 11:59 p.m. There will not be any late registrations allowed.
