The Panther Prowl
1/16/24
From Mrs. Taylor
Dear Parents and Students,
Our presentation was New Year, New Climb. Students were encouraged to pick one area that they can build their skills, improve behavior, or be more friendly towards others. We wanted kids to know that our goals for them are to be Safe, Happy and Healthy. When we are Safe, Happy and Healthy, we are ready to climb (learn). We talked through what these goals look like in the lunchroom, while waiting for buses after school, in the halls, classrooms, and outside. Students were told to respect others' space and respect others' property. We also talked about discriminatory language that would not be tolerated because they make others feel unsafe, unhappy and unhealthy. Students committed to having courage to be upstanders instead of bystanders. Our last slide said, "At Mt. Nebo Middle School we celebrate each other and our own diversity. We use kind words and work to uplift others. We see the strengths in each individual person. We need each other during the climb to reach the top."
I have been proud of the students' efforts to meet these expectations and to help make Mt. Nebo a great place for everyone.

Math Hints
Mt Nebo Math Moment: Practice Math Facts Without Flash Cards
Here is an easy game to play as a family that practices multiplication facts in a fun way. All you need is two dice and the recording sheet. If you don't have a printer, you can make your own because the game board is just a 10x10 grid. You could change it up and start with any size grid or you could play so each person starts with their own grid.
Roll the dice, draw a rectangle that size anywhere on the grid, multiply the numbers together to get your score for that turn which corresponds to the area and number of squares of the rectangle that you have claimed. When no more rectangles can be drawn, the game is over. The player with the most points wins.
Complete instructions are included with the recording sheet. Even young kids can play because they can count up their squares instead of multiplying!
