Solo Performance Update
As you know, all band students are working on a solo that they will perform at one of these upcoming events:
6th Grade Solo Night - Monday, Jan. 24 (4:30-7:00 pm) - student's specific time TBD
7th Grade Solo Night - Tuesday, Jan 25 (4:30-7:00 pm) - student's specific time TBD
WSMA District Solo/Ensemble Festival - Saturday, Feb 12 (8 am-4 pm) - specific time TBD
Registration for the WSMA festival has now ended. IF you didn't get the form in but would still like to have your child participate, please email me today. Registration fees (approx. $9) will be added to your child's Infinite Campus Account this week. Please pay this fee by Dec 17.
We will begin scheduling students for the 6th and 7th grade solo nights in the near future so you can get the exact performance time on your schedule. Family is encouraged to attend! Plan on attending solo night for about 35 minutes from time of arrival to departure. An example of a student's schedule that night is:
5:20 pm- Arrive
5:25 pm - Warm-up & photo taken
5:40 pm - Performance
5:45 pm - Fill out reflection
5:55 pm - Depart
We Need Your Help
Please consider giving a bit of your time that Saturday (easy jobs I promise!) or donating some food. To sign-up either register for a spot on Sign-up Genius or by completing this paper form and returning it to Mr. Gleason. Thank you in advance!

Contribute To My DonorsChoose Project?
I want to make sure my students have the materials and experiences they need to succeed, so I just created a request on DonorsChoose: Unlocking Musical Creativity.
Sir Ken Robinson once said, "All children start their school careers with sparkling imaginations, fertile minds, and a willingness to take risks with what they think." My students reflect this truth each day at school. I love their curiosity and passion. My students are diverse, capable and curious. While they do not hide their frustrations they do not hold back their joy. It is a privilege to work with them each and every day.
The Project
In our middle school general music classrooms, we see a wide range of students with varying degrees of musical skills and knowledge. Regardless, our goal is to create opportunities for them to create, connect, respond, and perform music.
The goal is to purchase USB mini keyboards that will transform their Chromebooks into music workstations. Students will have the capacity to create melodies, explore sounds, develop harmonies, construct rhythms, and collaborate musically. Pablo Picasso summed it up well; “Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once they grow up”.
To contribute just click the button below or the link above. If you chip in to help my students, you'll get awesome photos and our heartfelt thanks.
Thanks so much,
Chris
P.S. If you know anyone who may want to help, please pass this along!

Previous Information
Jan. 13 Panther Pep Band Performance Information
The Sun Prairie High School Pep Band, Epoch Sound, has invited the Panther Pep Band to perform with them at the SPHS Basketball Game on Thursday, January 13th. We have created parts so that all middle school band students, regardless of their performance level or the instrument they play, can participate. We are going to make a fun afternoon out of the event beginning right after school at Patrick Marsh.
How do you participate?
1) Have your child sign-up for Panther Pep Band in the band room (if they haven't already)
2) If possible, return $5 cash to Mr. Gleason by Jan. 6
Jan 13 - Epoch Sound Night Tentative Schedule
2:50 pm – Rehearsal and Activities at PM
4:30 PM – Pizza in the Cafeteria
5:05 PM – Load Bus going to the HS (one way…must find a ride home after the performance).
5:45 PM - MS musicians meet in the band room of the High School to rehearse with Epoch Sound. *Students who are unable to attend right after school may also meet us at the high school by 5:45 PM. These students are responsible for their own transportation to the high school!
6:30 PM – Set-up in the Field House at SPHS
6:45 PM – Pregame music will begin.
7:15 PM – Approximate End Time - MS students will be dismissed after the performance.
*Students may stay for the remainder of the game; however they must purchase a ticket from SPHS Athletics and will not be supervised by Mr. Gleason or Mrs. Haraldson. (SPHS Policy)
***Please note that transportation home from the HS is the responsibility of the student’s family! Students will need to take their instruments home from the HS as well as return them by Monday for rehearsal. Please note that family members who wish to hear their child perform must purchase a ticket to the basketball game.
We are also in need of a few chaperones to help with the evening. If you would like to help, please let us know!
