Week 4, S1: EMS Family Newsletter

The What-to-Knows at Estacada Middle School for Families

Week 3 at EMS: September 27 to October 1

iReady Reading and Math Opportunity

NEXT WEEK: Beginning on September 27 we will measure your student's reading and Math skills. The data we collect from these assessment opportunities will determine what interventions or enrichments your student receives on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Please discuss the importance of your student's effort with these opportunities. We want for your student's experience to be timely and meaningful!

iReady Reading Begins this Week at EMS
What Is Measured With iReady Diagnostic?

Your student has strengths in certain skills. Your student has opportunities for learning in certain skills. We want to know how to support your student. To pinpoint exactly what your student needs, we need a tool to determine your student's needs.

Virtual Open House and Learning Series

Tuesday, Oct. 5th, 7-8:30pm

This is an online event.

Join EMS faculty to discuss how well your child is learning at school. We want you to know exactly what is expected for your student, why it is expected of your student, and how we are going to ensure your student will meet their learning goals.

You will meet your student's teachers by using your student's Chromebook or personal device and signing into Canvas classes to click on Zoom links.

This opportunity will be for you to familiarize yourself with what "right looks like" so you know what is being asked of your student throughout the year.

Positive Covid-19 Test During the Weekend? Let us know!

Call the weekend COIVD-19 case hotline on the weekend. It is self-automated; select the right school (per the prompt) and leave a message. The voicemail you leave will be directed to our Vice-Principal, Mr. Kelley so we can begin to identify potential close contacts.

The number you need to call to notify us about your student's positive case is: 971-220-6594. Thank you for partnering with use to keep our students in the classroom with as little interruption as possible.

After School Club Sign-Ups

Clock on this link or scan the QR Code below to sign up for after school clubs. Parent pick-up or walk-home at this time only (we are working to secure transportation, later)

Engineering and Invention After School at EMS!

This year we are excited to announce an opportunity for creative, inventive, and imaginative EMS students! In October we are starting Estacada Middle School chapter meetings of MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement). MESA is a nationally recognized STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) organization which partners with Portland State University to provide engaging hands-on engineering and inventing experiences for kids here in our middle school community.

Come join us to build inventions, learn about block coding, build teamwork skills, and develop human-centered design skills to solve the problems facing our world today!

Where: MESA Club will meet at the middle school on Tuesdays after school (3:25 to 4:25) in room 109.
When: First meeting Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. Meetings will take place every Tuesday.

Participation in MESA is free to all student participants. Please note: there is no option for bussing home after MESA this year

To join, please have your child speak to their science teacher. Please contact Ms. Kottkamp with any questions or concerns at (kottkampb@estacada.k12.or.us).
