Democracy
Democracy is a government where everyone has a say. In this type of government, the people have the power.
Examples of Democracy
A few democratic countries today are Norway, Sweden, and Iceland.
Republic
A republic government is one where the people elect others to represent them.
Argentina
Argentina is an example of a republic government. Their president is Christina Fernandez de Kirchner.
Austria
Austria is another republic country. Heinz Fischer is the president.
Brazil
Brazil is also republic. The leader of their country is Dilma Rousseff.
Totalitarian
In a totalitarian government, one group or party has complete control.
Dictatorship
A dictatorship means there is one leader with blinded obedience from the people.
Romans
The roman empire was actually a dictatorship at one point, after being a democracy. They were lead by Julius Caesar.
Germany
Adolf Hitler was once a dictator of Germany, and one of the worst dictators in history.
Uganda
Idi Amin was also one of the worst dictators in history, seeing as he tortured more than 100,000 Ugandans.
Theocracy
Theocracy is a government controlled and based on the religion of the leading party.
Theocracies
An example of a theocracy is the Greeks, but theocracies are more common in Middle Eastern countries, like Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
Monarchy
A monarchy is a government where the rules and decisions are made by one person.
Brunei
Brunei is an example of an absolute monarchy.
Morocco
Morocco is a constitutional monarchy, which is different from an absolute monarchy, because the monarch still has political powers that can be used at their discretion.
Qatar
Qatar is another absolute monarchy.
