Body Safety Presentation Information
In the last legislative session SEA 355 was passed. We have attached it for your review. This bill requires all school districts to provide instruction to all students K-12 on child abuse and child sexual abuse. Chaucie’s Place will be providing the instruction for all grade levels for Hamilton Southeastern Schools. Chaucie’s Place is a child advocacy organization in Hamilton County that focuses on the prevention of child sexual abuse and youth suicide through education.
Chaucie's Place presentations at FCI will take place on, October 2nd, 2018. These presentations will be held during your child's related arts class time. Please know that your child's guidance counselor will be present for this presentation. If you do not your child to participate in this experience an Opt Out form is available in our front office.
Counselor's Corner
Want more information about what your school counselors have been up to this month? Follow the link to our Sway to see more in depth updates from the school counseling department!
Mr. Kozloski and Mrs. Sullivan have been visiting classrooms the past couple weeks as part of their first round of classroom guidance lessons. Be sure to ask your child about the various activities and discussions that took place during these lessons.
5th Grade
Mr. Kozloski took time during his guidance lessons to introduce himself and explain his role as the 5th grade counselor. He also led students in a goal setting activity, and did some more in-depth Mindfulness training with them. You can ask your 5th grader about Mindfulness and what goals they set for themselves this year.
6th Grade
In Mrs. Sullivan's classroom guidance we reviewed the role of a school counselor and learned that the 5 areas of growth we focus on with students are social, emotional, academic, college, and career. In our first lesson we focused on COLLEGE. We first learned about all of the post secondary options students have once they graduate from high school. Students then wrote one future goal they have for their lives and wrote 3 steps they can take to help them reach their goal. To close, students completed a Multiple Intelligences Test to learn what kind of "smart" they are. As a group we discussed that knowing about your strengths and areas to improve can help you to be successful in school and to plan for your future.
Look for the LEARN MORE INDIANA magazine that went home with your child, as well as the YELLOW goal setting sheet. Students were also encouraged to take screen shots of their multiple intellences results so that they could share them with someone at home. Links to both activities are included below!

College Go Week
College GO week takes place each September in Indiana schools. This year the dates are Sept. 24th-28th. College will be here before you know it! It is important for students to start thinking about their future educational and career plans early. Setting goals, exploring their interests, and researching their post secondary options are great ways to ensure success. Each year your child will be given the Learn More magazine, which is provided from the Indiana Department of Education. This is a great resource for parents and students to use when starting to think about life after high school. For more information regarding College GO week, the 529 College Savings Account, or to explore career interests, please visit http://www.learnmoreindiana.org.
PTO News
Dear FCI Families,
We wanted to reach out and share information with you. In the past the PTO has opted to have the students sell items to raise money, however this year we thought it would be fun to do it through various events (Hangouts, Chalk Walk and Falcon Fest) that benefit the students. It allows them time to see friends that they may not during the day, meet new people from other teams and just have fun.
What do these events go to fund?? Well, the PTO funds multiple things for the students, staff and school. Such as field trip assistance, extracurricular clubs and sports, 5th & 6th grade parties, band and orchestra support, supplies for classrooms and teachers, scholastic subscriptions and many more enrichment & behavioral support.
Throughout the year we will need parent volunteers and supplies for various events. If you would like to be on the list of volunteers please email pamela0426@yahoo.com with your name, email and phone number.
Thank you,
Pam English & Nickie Robinson

Chalk Walk Fundraiser
FCI's first Chalk Walk fundraiser! On Friday, October 5th students will spend part of their day outside with their teams being active, building community, and enjoying outdoors with fun music and popsicles. For every $5 raised by a student the student will receive a ticket to vote for a teacher within their team to be silly-stringed during their fun time outside. Students from each team will be randomly chosen to Silly the teachers that receive the most votes. Information/donation sheets went home with students on Friday.
This year the PTO has committed to fundraising only through PTO student-centered events rather than selling items such as discount coupon books. This event serves as one of the PTO-sponsored fundraising events that helps the PTO support the students, faculty and staff at FCI for an enhanced education experience. If you have any questions, wish to volunteer, or would like an alternative treat for your child please email Carrie Devine-Ransom at catherinedevine21@msn.com.
If you would like to volunteer to help with the Chalk Walk, please sign-up for any available times that you would like to volunteer at the link below:

- Photo ID - Whether picking up or dropping off, please have photo ID such as your driver's license ready for identification purposes.
- Door 1 entry - All visitors must enter via door 1 regardless of time of day. Please do not come in the cafeteria door with students before school.
- Bus lot - Do not enter the bus lot prior to bus arrival or while buses are in the lot.

Safe Visitor Badges
Per HSE Policy, visitors must have their Safe Visitor Badge scanned to check-in to the building. Please download the SafeVisitor App (available for iPhones and in Google Play for all other phones) or have your badge available when you come into the school. Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in.
Upon leaving, please give your printed badge to the office staff for quick check-out.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Vicki Foutty at 317-594-4100.
Activity dismissal
For school-wide events such as the Hang Out, Falcon Fest, all-school stay-after basketball games, the following pick-up procedures assist in safer, quicker dismissal:
- 5th grade parents to travel north on Olio Road into the front parking lot then south on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in FRONT of the building for 5th grade.
- 6th grade parents to travel south on Olio Road into the bus parking lot then north on Olio Road out of the parking lot. Pick-up is in the bus lot for 6th grade. This is north of the school on the side face HSE High School.
ABOVE ALL, we know your schedules are very busy as well. However, we ask that you NOT park in the parking lot and ask your child to walk across the lot. This is not safe as there are many vehicles in the lot. Please assist us in keep all of our children safe and remain in the pick up line. We will take all possible efforts to move the line quickly and safely. Thank you in advance!! :)
