Facts about ALS

  • ALS is also called Lou Gehrig's disease

  • What happens is that the muscles become smaller and weaker. Gradually the body becomes paralyzed, which means that the muscles no longer work

  • ALS is not contagious

  • About half of all people with ALS live at least 3 years after they find out they have the disease, and 20% live 5 years or more. As many as 10% will survive more than 10 years.
