Wynford Elementary Newsletter
February--2019
From the Desk of Mrs. Ratliff
This year's school calendar does not have make-up days, unless we fall below the Ohio Department of Education's minimum hour requirements. Elementary buildings are required to have 910 hours with students in attendance, at this point we are not in jeopardy of falling below those requirements. Any make-up days are scheduled at the end of the year. There has been conversation about extending the day instead of adding days if needed, however, any changes being made will be communicated with all of you as soon as it becomes apparent that we need to make an adjustment.
More importantly, missed school means missed instruction. Since we have missed so much time, teachers are working hard to make sure to thoroughly cover as much content as possible prior to the upcoming Ohio State Tests, and of course to prepare students for the next grade level. With conferences coming up, that is a perfect time to ask how you can support your learner at home.
Conference information was sent home with students and posted on the Elementary Facebook page. We are utilizing the online scheduler again, so please sign up! If you have difficulty using PTCFast.com, please call the office, the secretaries will be happy to help you.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us! Communication between home and school is an imperative piece of student success.
Educationally yours,
Nelle Ratliff

The Good News Club, sponsored by Child Evangelism Fellowship of Morrow-Ashland-Richland-Crawford-Knox counties, is being conducted by our art teacher Doug Lillo and our reading intervention teacher Lynne Fisher after school every Monday! A yellow permission slip came home for you to grant permission for your child to attend from after school until 4:45, when they are picked up at the flagpole.
Good News Club includes: Bible lessons, singing, verse memorization and other activities. A snack will be provided after school.
If you have questions, please contact Amy Taylor-Sheldon or Doug Lillo at school.
We hope to see you next Monday!
7 Habits Review--Habit 4--Think Win-Win
Most of us learn to base our self-worth on comparisons and competition. We think about succeeding in terms of someone else failing--that is, if I win, you lose; or if you win, I lose. Life becomes a zero-sum game. There is only so much pie to go around, and if you get a big piece, there is less for me; it's not fair, and I'm going to make sure you don't get anymore. We all play the game, but how much fun is it really.
Win-win sees life as a cooperative arena, not a competitive one. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win-win means agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial and satisfying. We both get to eat the pie, and it tastes pretty darn good!
A person or organization that approaches conflicts with a win-win attitude possesses three vital character traits:
- Integrity: sticking with your true feelings, values, and commitments
- Maturity: expressing your ideas and feelings with courage and consideration for the ideas and feelings of others
- Abundance Mentality: believing there is plenty for everyone
