An Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School West

A Word From Mr. Creeden

We concluded Random Acts of Kindness Week this week. Kindness can bring people together, even people that are not getting along. Kindness is powerful! Sometimes it’s the smallest act that makes the biggest impact – something as simple as saying please or thank you can turn a day around and make life seem that much better. Random Acts of Kindness Week encourages you to get out there and be the light you want to see in the world. West participated in this wonderful initiative with a spirit week, Valentines treats for our school bus drivers courtesy of Operation H.E.L.P. and inspirational videos. I want to say a special THANK YOU to our wonderful West Home & School for organizing the week and providing prizes and treats for students throughout the week. Please see below for some pics and a kindness video students watched in homeroom this week to spread the kindness message.

A special thank you to the West community for your generous donations to our local Daily Bread Community Food Pantry. The Daily Bread Community Food Pantry is the fourth largest food pantry in Montgomery County, serving approximately 300 families or 1,200 individuals each month. The pantry serves a broad area in Montgomery County – from the northern reaches of Perkiomenville and Gilbertsville to the southern areas of Collegeville and Eagleville. It is overseen by the Community Action Development Commission (CADCOM), the leading anti-poverty agency in Montgomery County. Unlike many other food pantries, the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry attempts to provide a full week of emergency food for all those it serves. It aims to provide personal care products not covered by Food Stamps that hit hard at family food shopping budgets. Parents of 6th grade students, please know that you are required to submit a physical form for your child during this school year. Safe2Say

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary. Please see below for more information.

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
