John Clark Elementary
November/December 2018
Our school-wide goal was to grow in our abilities to show kindness to others. Students heard stories of how kindness multiplies itself and spreads as we are kind to others. Walking through the halls and seeing students in the classrooms, I am always so impressed by how our students reach out to someone who is feeling sad. The other day, I witnessed 3 students rush over to another student to help pick up books and pencils that had fallen. Thank you for all you do at home to help model and practice kindness at home.

Pick Up and Drop Off
Thank you for a safe and smooth school transition. Here are a few reminders and updates to our drop off and pick up procedures.
Morning Drop Off
- No earlier than 7:40am in the front of the building.
- Please do not drive into the front parking lot if buses are present. Wait or park on Chestnut Street and walk your child to the front door.
Afternoon Pickup
- Begins at 2:40pm in the back parking lot.
- Changes in pick up (from bus to pickup or pickup to bus) should be made with a note to the classroom teacher at the beginning of the day or a call to the office before 9:00am.
Attendance Counts!
- Three (3) days of unexcused absences, the principal or designee, will contact the parent or guardian to schedule a parent conference. The parent is required to attend the conference to develop a plan to ensure the student’s attendance at school.
- Five (5) days of unexcused absences, the principal or designee will schedule a conference with the parent or guardian to determine reasons for absences. A letter will be sent to the Stearns County Attorney’s office informing them of the truancy concern with the child.
- Seven (7) days of unexcused absences, the school will send a second letter to the Stearns County Attorney informing them of the continued truancy problem. Excused absences will be converted to unexcused absences.
- Every five (5) days of an excused absence will convert to one day of an unexcused absence.
- A doctor’s slip will be required after one (1) unexcused absence.
- Three (3) times tardy will be converted to one (1) unexcused absence.
- Students are expected to arrive at school on time each day. Students are marked tardy if they are not at school by 9:30am.
Bus Message
ROCORI parents,
Please be certain your child rides the regularly scheduled bus to and from school each day. Birthday parties and gatherings involving bus sharing overload our buses, which are at capacity. Thank you for your understanding and diligence in this matter.
