Edison Elementary: 2020-2021 We're BETTER TOGETHER!
Mark Your Calendars
Thursday, November 19th is the last day for small cohort face-to-face instruction.
Wednesday, November 25 - Friday, November 26th is Thanksgiving Break.
Dear Fraser Families,
As you may know, The Fraser Board of Education voted on October 12th to return to Face-to-Face learning five days a week beginning November 30th. There will still be a robust virtual option available for all families as well.
Clarifying Information for Elementary Families:
- The current small group cohorts will continue meeting through Thursday, November 19th.
- Whether you choose to stay Virtual or move to the Face-to-Face model, your classroom teacher could change.
- Class sizes will be impacted. Enrollment will drive the class size numbers, and we cannot guarantee class sizes to be under 15. They will follow our traditional class size guidelines.
- Families that select our virtual option will be able to return to their home school in the Fall of 2021.
- Virtual Learning will have increased connection times. By having a teacher dedicated to virtual student classrooms, we are able to provide families with more virtual support and instructional time. You will be able to have daily morning meetings and time with teachers on Fridays.
- SACC will be transitioning from full-day to the traditional before- and after-school model. More information will be shared soon.
Please utilize the button below to select either our Virtual or our Face-to-Face model. This decision will be binding for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. All enrollment decisions must be made by October 30th.
Lunch Aides Needed At Edison
Lunch aides are needed every M-F at Edison beginning November 30th. These are paid positions, and applicants must be able to be outside in temperatures above 10 degrees. Interested candidates should email Mrs. Wiegand and complete a NOON AIDE application HERE. We look forward to hearing from you!
Candidates should be able to:
- Observe and supervise students during assigned work period.
- Maintain order and be aware of student safety and well-being, including supervising social distancing, handwashing, and sanitation procedures as needed.
- Wear a mask over nose and mouth when on duty.
- Supervise indoor activities in case of inclement weather.
- Report accidents or injuries or other problems to building principal.
- Assist students with clothing and lunches as needed.
- Maintain standards of conduct expected by the School District when students are eating their lunch or playing on the playground
Halloween Around Edison / Red Ribbon Week
This year, our Halloween celebration at Edison is going to look much different. On Thursday, October 29th, during their 1:30PM virtual class meetings, students will be encouraged to wear their costumes (if they have one) and teachers will be conducting a virtual Halloween activity.
In addition, the week of Halloween is Red Ribbon Week. So we will be having a Spooktacular Spirit Week to raise students' awareness about Red Ribbon Week and have some dress-up fun together.
*Please note- We will not be conducting any in-person Halloween celebrations this year. We will not be having a Halloween parade, Trunk-or-Treat, or formal class parties. Students will not be wearing costumes to school. Likewise, we will not be allowing families to send in goodie bags or treats of any kind this year.
Please see our Red Ribbon Week spirit days below:

https://form.jotform.com/202437360929155
It's so important that we're vigilant about monitoring our symptoms and that we stay home when we're feeling off.
Keep Your Face Mask Clean
Technology Help
- To submit Help Tickets for technology problems, please use our Device and Instructional Support Form. A member of our technology team will reach out to help you.
- Unfortunately, we don't have any trained technology teamed members available to field phone calls in the office, so the above JotForm is the best way to get help with programs/devices.
Attendance Counts
If your child is going to be absent, for either a virtual day (half or full) or an in-person, small group day, please call them into our attendance line: 586-439-6590
If your child is absent from their homeroom/grade level virtual meetings, they will receive an absence in PowerSchool. If there are extenuating circumstances for a given meeting (i.e. failed connection, etc)- please email your child's teacher to inform them of the situation so they can code it appropriately in PowerSchool.
Return To School REMINDERS- What Parents Need To Know
Other Important Reminders:
*All students and staff MUST wear masks throughout the day at school.
*No breakfast, lunch, or snacks will be consumed at school. Students MAY bring water bottles.
*All families need to self-asses their child's health before coming to school. To indicate that they've done so, families must submit the Self Assessment Form for each student prior to entry.
*If your child is sick or is demonstrating symptoms consistent with COVID 19, you must keep them home.
*We are unable to allow entry to any parents/visitors during the day.
What is UDL?
Edison staff members continue to look for ways to implement the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with our learners.
I will be sharing regular updates about these efforts, so I want to provide families with some more background about UDL and why we are making it a priority in our Fraser classrooms.
Please check out the link below to learn more about what UDL is and how we are working towards breaking down barriers and providing equity for all of our students.
