Big picture

Positivity Project

This week our school community will be focusing on the Other People Mindset. This means anything that builds relationships is going to make you happy.

The mission of the Positivity Project is to empower America’s youth to build positive relationships by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all. People who have strong positive relationships do five things consistently - these are the five practices of the Other People Mindset. 1. Recognize the good in other people, 2. Recognize that everything you say or do affects other people, 3. Support others when they struggle, 4. Cheer people on when they succeed, 5. Remain present when giving people your attention. People who have a strong Other People Mindset are able to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with others.

While mental health is incredibly complex, we do know that positive relationships can help people become happier, healthier, and more resilient. And, the Positivity Project believes that educators have a huge opportunity and vital role to play in this endeavor. Our nation’s youth spends a large percentage of their time in school. By deliberately and consistently teaching students that relationships are important -- and that positive relationships are cultivated through character and the Other People Mindset -- educators can roll back these trends and create strong citizens and leaders for our communities and countries.

We look forward to growing our Crew and their character strengths!

P2 Family Resources

In the past, we have embedded P2 Family resources in to The Compass. We are going to try a different approach this year and send them through TalkingPoints on Monday evening.

The goal of this change is to allow an easier access point for families. The resources will contain a Character Card that provides a description of the character strength, a quote, a short video, and discussion questions.

We encourage families to use these resource to support a family discussion about the character strength during dinner, breakfast, or a time that is convenient.

Please note, the resources are password protected. The password is P2.

Kindergarten Open House

Kindergarten Open House will be Thursday, September 15. Teachers will host these meetings in their rooms and will be provide details about their classrooms. Sessions will begin at 5:00pm and 6:00 pm.

This is an information session for parents. Students are always welcome, but please know the event will be more focused on sharing with parents how each classroom will operate and curriculum.

Fall Pictures

We will host Fall School Pictures on Wednesday, September 21. Order information will be sent home with student this week.

Safety and Carpool

This year we will require that any student being dismissed through carpool have a Buckhorn Creek Carpool tag.

We will not call students by name. Cars without a Buckhorn Creek issued Carpool tag will be required to pull forward, show ID, and we will verify that students can be released to the person picking them up. You will need to add anyone that is allowed to pick up your child to the emergency contacts during Meet the Teacher.

Please make sure you have your carpool tag or have requested additional carpool tags before the first day of school.

Please request a new or replacement carpool tag by following this link.

Anyone that will be a walker must follow a different process that must be completed In-Person. Please do NOT complete this survey. Please come to the school during one of our Forms Days.
