Miner Minutes
July 23, 2016
Schedule for School Year
Enrollment update: 6th 270; 7th 232; 8th 285
Although the "official" schedule hasn't been sent out yet, we did want to be sure everyone was aware of the overall schedule for next year. Some key components that we all need to understand:- Miner Time will be at the same time for the entire school. It will be approximately an hour after school begins for about 41 minutes. The purpose of this being the same for everyone is so that we can better meet the needs of all of our students for remediation and enrichment purposes. Although many of you wanted this to be the last block of the day, this would not have worked with keeping remediation/enrichment as a priority above athletics. The only reason to do this at the end of the day would be for athletics, and this is not our primary purpose as a school. The school leadership team is working through all the logistics and expectations for Miner Time.
- Every grade level will have 80-90 minutes of planning every day. If a grade level has a few more minutes of planning than another grade level, please do not nitpick. That serves no purpose. It's incredibly challenging to balance all times and numbers perfectly, and sometimes we have to compromise a few minutes here and there. Please know that if a grade level receives more planning time, that it will be balanced out with supervisory duties and other responsibilities.
- Planning times (approximate): Encore will have beginning of the day planning (before Miner Time), and then a later smaller amount of time later in the day. 8th grade will be at the end of the day; 7th grade right after lunch; and 6th grade after Miner Time.
- Only core teachers will have homerooms.
- As of now, lunches will be served from 10:55am until 12:57pm (7th, 8th, then 6th).
- Core class times runs from 55-58 minutes (with 60 minutes for block 1 to include announcements).
- Encore will run on A/B day for approximately 85 minutes Monday-Thursday with consistent uses of A days being Mondays and Wednesdays while B days will be Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fridays, Encore teachers will see BOTH A and B day classes for approximately 40 minutes. The lunch time issues have been corrected for Encore teachers.

Classroom Grant Opportunity
The Cabarrus County Education Foundation (CCEF) is excited to kick off the 2016-2017 Classroom Mini-Grant Program.
Grants are awarded to teachers annually for up to $500 for classroom projects that identify special opportunities encompassing innovation, creativity, sustainability, and alignment with Cabarrus County School goals and curriculum standards. Some of this year’s recipients created an outdoor learning lab, explored Chinese paper cutting, held staff development training, built robotics into their curriculum, introduced stability balls, and even held a Resume Day that brought companies in to meet with students not attending college.
The Classroom Mini-Grant application is attached and will be due by October 11, 2016. It is also available on our website at www.ccefnc.org.
