The Mangus Messenger
5/15/16
Dear Parents
As many of you know, our class is having a little trouble with the end of year countdown. They have grown so much, built their confidence and faith in one another, and most importantly they've gone through a lot...together. They don't want to leave each other.
Each year is a growing year, but this year they have seriously changed. They are much different from that first day in September and I am proud to see them digging deep to find their truest self. They strive to do better, while still holding on to childhood, and they are truly good people.
There is a lot going on with our cereal commercials, Open for Business store, and Field Day. Please do not let anyone stress and don't hesitate to ask any questions that come up.

Boat Ramp - Math Project
You are a group of engineers charged with the task of creating a floating dock and pedestrian ramp. You have 30 minutes and only the materials you can access in the room (and a few you remembered to bring). This is real life...
The results were absolutely fabulous! The discussion was rich and full of mathematical thinking. The teamwork...priceless.

Reading
We are wrapping up our last cycle of Reading Edge. Our students are doing a great job comparing and contrasting the various themes and characters in the short stories.
Baseball in April has also given us a glimpse into another culture and the importance sports plays to those in lower socioeconomic situations.

Encore Award
Thank you so much to all of you that nominated me for the Encore Award. I had a wonderful time at the Education Foundation dinner and was speechless when I found out that I had won. It takes a lot of time to write those nominations and you honor me by submitting them. Thank you, again!
