THANKSGIVING AND HOPE AT MARIAN CENTRAL
Right now, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, many of us are feeling down and the question that is foremost in many of our minds: “Are we going to get through this?” It is especially difficult with Thanksgiving coming up to accept the basic religious tradition that we should be grateful notwithstanding our current problems and circumstances. It certainly is easy to have feelings of gratitude when everyone feels good and things are going well, but remember Paul teaches us, “In everything give thanks.” This means in pleasure or pain we should give thanks.
How then can we develop an attitude of gratitude? My mother taught me one way. She would tell me time and time again, “Count your blessings.” Maybe it never got through until now (because it was said so often), but listing the things for which I am grateful can generate feelings of appreciation and gratitude. So too can expressing thanks out loud daily. This has more power than you may think. Try thanking others throughout the day, particularly people you don’t ordinarily thank, compliment people, think about people you appreciate, and please remember to thank yourself at the end of the day for the things you did well. In time, you may notice a change. At the least, it may appear that instead of seeing things half-empty, things may appear half-full.
Let us also take some time and remember to hope. Hope is the expectation of a good that is yet to be. It is an inner knowing that the future holds positive things. No matter what our current circumstances are, the days to come will reveal happiness. Just by believing that our futures will include moments of joy, love, and meaning, we already have within us the spark of hope.
What follows are the things I am grateful for as Superintendent of Marian Central:
- I am proud to have all of you as part of our Marian family and look forward to our great work together for many years to come. We are all in this together and please know that Marian Central will do everything we can to get us through these challenging times.
- I deeply appreciate what your sons and daughters achieve and the milestones in growth that I am blessed to witness on a daily basis. I know how hard our families, students, and our faculty work, and truly admire all your dedication.
- You all play a significant part in who Marian is. Thank you. I am excited to look into the future of our school and know that with your support Marian Central will continue to soar.
- Our success will always be determined by our families and our faculty and staff. Thank you for all of your contributions to Marian’s success.
- At a time like this, we all need to be there for each other. I wish for nothing more than for all of you to take care of yourselves, your friends and your family. On behalf of our administration team, please stay safe. We will push through these challenges with grace and positivity and do not forget to have a truly Happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

Applying to College?
With the next college Early Action December 1 deadline approaching quickly, I’d like to ask that any students applying to colleges that require a counselor letter of recommendation submit their transcript request forms for only those schools to Mrs. Diamond no later than Friday, November 20. If you're applying to a college with an Early Action deadline of December 1 that does NOT require a counselor recommendation feel free to turn your transcript request forms any time prior to 12/1.
Transcript request forms can be picked up in the Guidance Office or found online on the Guidance Department’s Website: https://sites.google.com/view/mcchsguidance/transcript-request-form?authuser=0
Students should also complete their Counselor Letter of Recommendation Questionnaires in SCOIR no later than Friday, November 20. When completing these, students should provide 1-2 solid paragraph responses to Questions 2-8 (and 9, only if applicable).
If you don’t know if a college that you’re applying to requires a counselor recommendation, please see/contact Mrs. Diamond so she can give you that info!
Note: Students do not need to have applied to these schools before submitting transcript request forms. Their applications can still be “in progress” and can be submitted on or before the schools’ application deadlines. Any questions, please see me or Mrs. Diamond!
