Bobcat Bulletin
Week of August 16th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
Hello Bobcat Community,
We are looking forward to welcoming our Bobcats back to school this week! If you are new to Brookdale and missed the first two newsletters, they can be found here: Summer Update/Week of August 9th.
We are very excited about our upcoming events this week and hope these can be memorable experiences for both you and your student(s). We know we missed getting to host these events last year and are very glad to have our community back in our building this year! Our Bobcat Family is not complete without each of you!
Please let us know if you have any questions regarding any of items within this newsletter. We know there is a lot of information, but this is an effort to put it all in one place for you as we begin the year. We are here to support you as we transition back to school as we know for some of our students this is the first time back in over a year and a half! We are starting the year in-person, and that is something we are ALL grateful for!
We look forward to seeing you very soon!
Brookdale's Proud Principal,
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
UPDATES
Bobcat Dream Team: Fully Staffed!
Your Child's Schedule
General Drop-Off/Pick-Up Procedures
Please ensure your child and child's teacher knows his/her arrival/dismissal plan. Any change of dismissal plans on the day of should be communicated to the office (630-428-6800) prior to 2:30pm.
All students will enter and exit through the same door based on grade level or arrival/dismissal plan (see linked map above).
August 19th: On the first day of school, we will have all students line up on the blacktop/field as we kick-off the year together! Teachers will have signs, so you can find your child's teacher. We will begin our second day (August 20th) in our normal routine, including our kindergartners entering Door 11.
Supervision:
Students can arrive at 8:50am daily. Staff will not be on supervision prior to 8:50am. At 8:50am doors will open and students will head to their classroom. Staff will be on hand to guide students to their classrooms. Doors will close at 9:05am and students will need to enter at Door 1 (main entrance) to be signed-in. Being on time for school helps your child get started in his/her routine.
*Kindergarten Parents: Please pay special attention to the kindergarten arrival/dismissal door on the map above (front of school). Parents should come to door 11 if picking up their kindergartner as a walker. All remaining kindergarten students will be escorted and supervised at the car line.
See below for details depending on how your child arrives and leaves school.
Is Your Student a Car Rider?
If dropping-off/picking-up by car, our community should follow the car rider visual map. If you are coming from Redfield Road, the line wraps onto Bainbridge, so you will want to join the line by turning onto Bainbridge (see visual). The car line will not begin unloading until 8:50am when supervision is present.
Kindergarten students will again be using the car line this year. Extra supervision has been assigned to accommodate our littlest learners.
Please ensure you pull all the way up on Redfield when instructed by staff. All cars will stop, students unload on the curb side, and the process continues.
Below is a video recorded, to help provide a visual for the car line procedures. It is important we all do our part to keep all students safe (this includes adhering to the school zone speed limits, please!).
Is Your Student a Walker?
If you are parking and walking to school using one of the side streets, please follow street signs and pay attention to curb markings.
There will be three crossing guards on duty:
1. Across from the school on Redfield at the crosswalk
2. At the intersection of Bainbridge and Redfield
3. At the path to the school on Bainbridge
Will Your Child be Taking the Bus?
*Same procedure is followed for our students who take a daycare bus to/from school.

Lunch/Recess
Students will be eating on in our multi-purpose room (cafeteria) at the lunch tables spread apart by 3 feet and on the stage (in desks) 3 feet apart from head to head. Students will sit with their class and have a seating chart alphabetically for the start of the year (seating chart required for contact tracing). The seating chart will be revisited as the year progresses. Masks do not have to be worn outside when the students are participating in recess (the same applies to P.E.). The playground is also now OPEN for kids to play (hooray!). We are starting off with open recess as we had done pre-pandemic and will revisit zone recess as a grade level to grade level decision if needed.
For hand washing hygiene, we will keep the same order of lunch first then recess for each grade level (schedule below). Similar to last year, only our grade levels that go four hours or more from the start or end of school will be taking a snack time (2nd grade and Kindergarten).
Below is our lunch schedule:
