WBMS Friday Notes
October 1-5
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians –
While there are many important aspects of education, one I have found myself contemplating more often this year is the other side of the report card, the one that deals with self-worth and character. According to Aristotle, “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” I could not agree more. Schools are a people business and our relationships with one another inside and outside of our classrooms and buildings are the foundation of all we do; thus, we must be intentional about how we build and nurture our community. As a matter of fact, along with other members of our staff, I am currently attending The National Forum on Character. It is inspirational and we have already taken away so many ideas to strengthen and integrate some of our current programs like our Wellness Committee, our Positive Behavioral Intervention System (“The Webb Way”), and our Advisory/Compass lessons to focus on bolstering our most precious resources – the people of WBMS – our students, staff, parents, and community members. Positive relationships are at the core of everything we do at WBMS, and I am excited to continue our work towards building a truly collaborative culture where we all realize that kindness really does matter and together we are better.

TAG Probation Guidelines
For a student to continue in the gifted program after initial placement, he/she must meet the program’s continuation criteria. These are satisfactory performance in the gifted program as noted by evaluation of student work, data from teacher reports, standardized test data, grades, and turning in work in a timely manner.
When the student’s performance does not meet the Fulton County district criteria for continued participation, a student may be placed on probation. Probation allows for students to receive interventions when their performance in any gifted service class falls below the continuation criteria. Continuation of services is determined separately for each advanced course in which a student is served. Discontinuation of service in the TAG program occurs when a student no longer receives any gifted services.
TAG students are placed on probation when the student’s 9-week average is less than 80%. TAG students may also be placed on probation if the student does not score minimally at the Proficient level on the state required competency test (Georgia Milestones End of Grade) in the content area.
The probation period is in effect for the remainder of the school year. While on probation students must maintain an 80% average or higher for each subsequent 9 week grading period of the academic year or will be dismissed from the TAG class. Parents are notified prior to dismissal.
