Dear Parents and Staff
There is rarely a week at school that isn’t full of activity. This week has certainly not been an exception as we commenced on Monday morning with our Book Week Parade co-ordinated by Mrs Sarah Sarmardin with the Student Library Monitors and hosted by the very flamboyant Mr Jason Tyrrell, better known on the day as the Man in Tights, Robin Hood. I am always amazed by the creativity of so many children and their parents in coming up with new and innovative ideas for costumes to represent favourite books. Thank you to Mrs Sarmardin and her very capable helpers who coordinated both the parade and the many engaging activities in the Library throughout the week.
A very special thank you to Marelyn and Domenic Bianchi, Mrs Sarmardin’s aunt and uncle, who provided many of the amazing displays that adorned the Library. They are truly magnificent!
PERFORMING ARTS
Tomorrow evening all of the many hours of hard work that the children in Mrs Donovan-Flintoff’s dance group have put into rehearsals will come to fruition with their performance at the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. I am really looking forward to seeing them as they represent our school. Congratulations to all members of the troupe and to Mrs Donovan-Flintoff for their perseverance in working towards, what I believe will be, a stunning performance. Many thanks also to the parents and staff who have assisted with the amazing costumes and make-up for the performance.

YEAR 5 CLASS NEWS
The children have been enjoying Edu-Dance this term and are very excited about their final performance on Monday, 17 September (M) and Tuesday 18 September (P). We would love to see as many parents as possible in the audience.
We visited the Ruth Fulkner Library and were entertained by Tamara Moss, author of the Lintang series. She enthralled the children with the writing process. She shared the true meaning of resilience when sharing her stories of rejections of her drafts. But by pure perseverance, she has managed to become a very successful local author.
In Science, we have been conducting experiments looking at mixtures and compounds and have had an introduction to the periodic table.
Another exciting event on our upcoming calendar is the Night of the Notables, which promises to be a very entertaining and worthwhile experience for all. From Meghan Markle to Winston Churchill we are sure to meet some interesting characters as the children will present in first person.

3 YEAR OLD KINDERGARTEN 2019
If your child turns 3 between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019 and you would like them to attend 3 Year Old Kindy in 2019 at Notre Dame Catholic Primary School, please contact the front office on 6272 7100 between 8.00am and 3.30pm.
MUSIC NEWS
The Performing Arts Festival has been our focus this term. Therefore, congratulations are in order to our piano students who performed earlier this term, both our Year 3 classes and members of the school choir which represented the school with pride at the Festival this year. The Year Three classes sang at Saint Benedict’s Church, Applecross in the Liturgical Singing section, and the School Choir sang in the Primary Choral Singing section at the Vasto Club, Balcatta.
Both groups sang with conviction, commitment and enthusiasm. The children certainly gave meaning to the words they sang. Both adjudicator reports were glowing of the children’s singing, behaviour, appearance and posture.
We received news that Bede Kareng (Year 6P) received a Merit Award for his performance in the Primary Piano Solo section of the Festival. The School Choir also received a Merit Award for their performance. Well done one and all! I am awaiting these certificates, so after I receive them, I will send them home together with reports from the respective performances.
Thank you to those parents who were present at either or both performances. We greatly appreciate your presence.
Thank you to Mrs Pirie, Mrs Bradshaw, and Mrs Notte for their assistance at the performances and rehearsals, Mrs Lawrie for her assistance with the uniforms and also to Mrs Evans for accompanying the children on the keyboard.
I look forward to working with the choir members for the remainder of the year. We have a busy schedule for the remainder of the term and so choir practise continues on Wednesday mornings at 8am.

MINATURE PRODUCTS PRODUCTION
Coles has launched a promotion featuring miniature versions of popular products like Nutella, Vegemite, Weet-Bix and Tim Tams. If you are a regular Coles shopper and are not collecting the ‘little shop’ products, we would love for you to donate them to the school as they can be used to enhance our numeracy and literacy programs. Please drop unwanted collectables to administration.
Thank you.
Miss Cutri
