Parkdale Elementary School
Principal Message / Mensaje Del Director
Dear Families,
We're up and running in the new year! 2023 is starting off great!
In addition to finding ways to make learning fun and engaging we are teaching students about being respectful, responsible, safe, and kind citizens. This month we are focusing on teaching and recognizing Empathy.
Empathy- Understanding and connecting to other people's feelings.
Here is a family idea for practicing Empathy at home: Review Empathy as a family! Remember that Empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Schedule a family movie night so that you can specifically watch for feelings and emotions. Let everyone know that you’d like them to point out how the characters in the show are feeling and that you will pause periodically to discuss Empathy. As emotions are identified, invite one another to Empathize by sharing about a time they felt that way or imagining how they might be feeling in that moment.
Parkdale PTO Service Project Report
Students in all classes worked on a service project. Students collaborated to create beautiful wreaths to donate to the residents at Hood River Care Center. This service project is an annual traditions designed to foster a spirt of giving and community in our students.
Thanks to everyone for you support in making this year's service project a big success. The HUGE donation of supplies, tools, and skilled helpers by McCarthy Family Farms really made this yearly project go so smoothly despite weather setbacks. Thanks especially to Jordan Kim for her organization and leadership and to all the other parent volunteers.
Parkdale Robotics Team Success!
It's been a while since we've had a robotics team at Parkdale. You wouldn't know it by the success our team had at the Regional Lego Robotics tournament on Jan. 8th! We had two teams compete:
The Girl Bots: Ainsley Hogg, Savvy Smith, Juno Long, Malina Pelligrini, MacKenzie Huffman, Cora Harley, and Oriah Fullerton
The Lego Masters: Chase Anderson, Travis Betts, Flynn DeHart, Xavier Solorzano, and Asher Rust.
The judges at the event commented on the way that both of our teams worked together. They said they, "showed a genuine kindness and respect for one another, excellent teamwork!"
In addition, The Lego Masters walked away with the Team Award for Core Values. This is an award that highlights teamwork, inclusion, fun, kindness, and learning from others. Congratulations to both teams!
Special Thanks to all the HRV student volunteers including Charlie Wilson and our Parkdale Parent Volunteers. Thanks to Sarah Wilson for her ongoing support too! Last but not least, thank you to our PTO for providing the awesome t-shirts!

Mensaje Del Director
Queridas familias,
Estamos en marcha en el nuevo año! ¡2023 empieza genial!

The Girl Bots: Ainsley Hogg, Savvy Smith, Juno Long, Malina Pelligrini, MacKenzie Huffman, Cora Harley y Oriah Fullerton
The LEGO Masters: Chase Anderson, Travis Betts, Flynn DeHart, Xavier Solorzano y Asher Rust.
Además, The Lego Masters se llevó el premio Team Award for Core Values. ¡Felicitaciones a ambos equipos!
