Dr Charles Hodge was formerly the Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Upstate Medical University, an institution located in Syracuse, New York. He is also formerly the President of the Society of University Neurosurgeons, a member of the Society of Neurological Surgeons council, its President, a member of the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a member of Scientific Advisory Committee of the AANS Research Foundation. Dr Charles Hodge, a well-known and respected retired neurosurgeon, is honored to have been listed as one of America’s Best Doctors from 2001 to 2010. He received this honor for his work, and exemplary leadership, and the SUNY Upstate Medical University Department of Neurosurgery, which he served with distinction and dedication throughout his distinguished career.

During his time at the Syracuse-based institution, Dr Charles Hodge was actively involved in a variety of local efforts, which included the redevelopment of the school’s MD-PhD program and the chairmanship of the local practice group. For nearly 20 years, Dr Charles Hodge was the Chairman of the university’s well-known neurosurgery program. As the leader of the program, Hodge concentrated his research on cortical function, plasticity and recovery from brain injury, pain mechanisms, and the use of Gamma Knife Radiosurgery for some pain syndromes and difficult to remove brain tumors.

As a leader within the department and the university, Dr Charles Hodge was an important part of the development of neurologic navigational systems that are used to make cranial surgery more effective and safer than ever before. He was also responsible for training many young neurosurgeons that are currently practicing and experiencing success throughout various regions of the country.

The Chief Medical Officer for vCases, Hodge provides the start-up firm insight and consultation on medical diagnoses, an effort to help the company develop an effective diagnoses training platform that will forever revolutionize how patient diagnoses are created and made.

A neurosurgical professional for over three decades, Dr Charles Hodge was an indispensable part of the SUNY Upstate Medical University Department of Neurosurgery for many years, providing leadership, focus and direction to one of the best teams in the country.

Dr Charles Hodge brings that same drive, focus, determination and ambition to his work with vCases, which is now working on the development of a training systems designed to forever improve the world of medical diagnoses. As Hodge knows, diagnostic errors are a common occurrence in the field of medicine, and the time has come to design, create and implement a training platform that approaches this problem head on. Dr Charles Hodge: Continuing a Tradition of Excellence

Dr Charles Hodge was an important and integral part of the State University of New York, or SUNY, Upstate Medical university Department of Neurosurgery for more than 30 years, serving as a dedicated colleague, physician and teacher to many over what was a notable and successful medical career. A long-time figure of importance at both SUNY and within the neurosurgical field, Dr Charles Hodge demonstrated passion for his craft, as well as for better ways to provide diagnoses and treatment to every patient.

Dr Charles Hodge completed his Neurosurgical Residency at the Syracuse-based SUNY Health Science Center between 1969 and 1974, and became an official member of the SUNY’s Upstate Medical Center Department of Neurosurgery Teaching staff in 1975. He served as an Assistant Professor in the institution from 1975 to 1978, and was an Associate Professor within the department from 1978 to 1982. Dr Charles Hodge served as a SUNY Department of Neurosurgery Professor from 1982 to 2009, and is honored to be a SUNY Upstate Medical University Professor Emeritus of Neurosurgery to this day.

Dr. Charles Hodge was also leader within the respected academic institution, serving as the Vice Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery from 1985 to 1988, as well as Department Chairman from 1988 to 2007. Under the tutelage of Hodge, several dozen young neurosurgeons had the opportunity to learn from and work under one of the best in the field, and many now hold positions throughout the United States. His time at the Syracuse institution forever transformed not only the Department of Neurosurgery, but also contributed to the entire neurosurgical field.

Now the Chief Medical Officer for the start-up vCases, Dr Charles Hodge aims to improve diagnostic medicine forever, changing and improving the way medical professionals diagnose patients and creating a better treatment experience for patients around the world.

The current objective of Dr Charles Hodge is to seek out and secure the necessary funding for vCases, which he believes will provide a high-quality online training experience to medical students, residents and practicing physicians throughout the medical community. His hope is to find the funding needed to transform the principles of diagnostic medicine into something that is appealing and effective; a platform that will not only be useful, but that will also provide life-like patient encounters to the user. Dr Charles Hodge believes that vCases, when fully enabled, will provide medical professionals and students with practical, lifelike experiences that will improve how they think about and approach the diagnostic process, improving their diagnostic accuracy which will, in turn, improve the effectiveness of the patient’s treatment.

Having worked within the medical profession for many years, Dr Charles Hodge has had the opportunity to see the effects of misdiagnosis on a firsthand basis. It is his ultimate goal to forever rid both the patient and the physician of this common problem, and to make the field of medicine more effective.
