Strategic Math 6

What is Strategic Math 6?
- Strategic Math 6 is for students who need extra support in math fundamentals in order to achieve success in their math class.
- A student's fifth-grade teacher, current math teacher and/ or Pioneer's counselors identify those who need additional support in procedural fluency and conceptual understanding of middle school math concepts as outlined by the common core state standards.
- Class meets Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday during zero period.
Objectives
- Identify math skills below grade-level proficiency.
- Design a course of action that focuses on reteaching concepts as needed and providing practice that builds math skills identified as below proficiency.
- Assess for mastery.
- Repeat steps 1 through 3 for skills not mastered.
- Celebrate Achievements!
Students: Please bring your charged iPad, Binder Reminder and supplies to class every day.

CONSEQUENCES
- First or Second Offense: Warning; Teacher-Student Conference
- Third or Fourth Offense: 5-minute timeout with reflection; Parent Contact
- Fifth Offense: Multi-paragraph reflection paper; Parent Contact
- Sixth Offense: Office referral
REWARDS and POSITIVE EXPERIENCES
- Positive notes or phone calls home
- Noteworthy grades, marks for citizenship and work habits
- Games
- Music while we work (when appropriate)
- Natural aromatherapy (unless there are allergies)
- Hot chocolate (fall/ winter/ cold weather)
- Strawberry lemonade (spring/ warm weather)
- Invitation to a "Celebration Luncheon"
A Place to Learn and Grow
Grading
Students have a chance to demonstrate mastery of concepts throughout the semester and receive full points. Scores are updated regularly in Aeries to provide timely feedback.
Scale
0 = no attempt
1 = Emerging
2 = Developing
3 = Proficient
4 = Advanced

Homework
Complete homework as expected. Correct practice at home as demonstrated in class increases the chances that a student will achieve mastery.
Homework will be documented but will not be recorded in Aeries

One section in a binder or a separate pocket folder
College-ruled paper, 3-hole punched
